Mr. Thomas 7 th year teaching Attended Carthage College-North Park Played & coached Football, Basketball and track Married w/ 2 kids I am Fair & Fun Effort and trying new things Miss Mead 3 rd year of teaching Attended ISU Passion for basketball & Running Coached XC Love anything Disney related Do what we ask, you’re going to have a blast! Mrs. Kraus 7 th year at Gavin, 8 th year teaching Attended EIU Just got married in November I have a little yorkie named Molly I have coached Volleyball, Softball, & Cheerleading This year I am coaching 6 th /7 th grade girls volleyball I am really big on common courtesy And I am terrible at sarcasm- If you think I’m being mean, I am not, my delivery is just poor ;)

3 Health & Physical Education Daily PE (Monday – Friday) ◦ Some units will be elective, others not ◦ Wednesdays are Fitness Days ◦ 1x per Trimester = Fitness Testing (Fitness Gram) ◦ 40 degrees or warmer = outside (Keep warm clothes in locker) Health (Monday – Wednesday) – Rotation ◦ Meet in the classroom that is assigned (No More Meeting in the Locker Room before)

5 POINT SYSTEM How you earn your grade in PE 10 Points a day ◦ 5 = Participation 5 = Dress -3 points = for Gum (zero tolerance) -1 point = tardy (counts for LR & Gym) Absent = 0/10 until points are made up (1 week) Participation 20% Skill/Assessment 60% Dress 20%

6 PE ABSENT/ MAKE UP WORK You will be responsible for making up any missed days in PE. Receive a take home work out (20 min w/o) Do it Get it signed by your parent Bring it in Points will be issued back to you You have 1 week to make it up!

7 If you get injured Parent note gets you out for 1 day After that, must have a doctors note ◦ Have the Doctor back date from your injury to receive all the points back Have your doctor write your limitations, NOT JUST NO P.E. (receive a written assignment) * IF not Doctor’s note is given, you can make up your points within 1 week by doing an at home work out

9 P.E. Procedure How P.E. will run this year You will be able to go back to your locker to get something IF and ONLY IF you ask right after you enter. Not, I am going to talk to my friends, then go get it. DO NOT WAIT, it will be a NO

10 6-8 th Grade Procedure Procedural RulesTeacher Rules Closed/Open Squads Warm-ups On time Complete Uniform & consequences & take home on Friday 4 minutes before class and 4 minutes after to go to the bathroom Whistle = STOP! EVERYTHING! Common Courtesy Effort- Try your best Sportsmanship Respect ◦ Self ◦ Building ◦ Others ◦ Learning Be happy and positive

11 5 th Grade Physical Education Enter the Locker Room (2-3 minutes): -Go to the bathroom -Change shoes if necessary WAIT TO BE DISMISSED TO THE GYM! Locker room Rules - Discussed with teacher inside the locker room You can keep shoes in the locker room -They will be locked up at all times -When you enter, the lock will be off and you can change your shoes then - You will have 2-3 minutes at the end of class (before the bell) to change back into your other shoes

12 PE PROCEDURE 5 th grade When you are dismissed from the locker room Go to your closed squads Go to your open squads for warm-ups Immediate Activity- Expect to be moving and active the entire time

13 Rules & Expectations Some are new… Pay attention!

14 NO DRESS OPTIONS: PAY ATTENTION… NEW No Dresses- 3 points off 4 no dresses = a detention 3 no dresses = a call home But… You can save yourself by: Being Responsible If your gym clothes didn’t get washed, lost them, left them somewhere… You can bring in an alternate uniform that you did not wear to school until A. it gets washed B. its found C. a new one is paid for. There is a limit at teacher’s discretion, then consequences will arise. Renting a Loaner Uniform If you forgot your uniform, you can borrow a loaner uniform for $0.25 We will keep track and call home after $0.75 (3 no dresses) They will be washed and clean for you every time First come first serve! – We do not have many Shoes will be allowed to be borrowed at no charge but… only 1x/week and you must have socks and your ID

15 Expectation for the Gym No gum-Consequence (EVER, including sports) No food or drink ◦ (water only- concessions after school ok) No opening of door ◦ (not even to cool off, especially if anyone knocks- goes for after school as well) No banging, stomping, or climbing bleachers No pull using the up bar without asking No sliding = dry mop the floor No leaving the gym without permission (even a drink- ASK)

16 Consequences MINOR, LUNCH DETENTION, or OPI’s IF…. ◦ Gum (zero tolerance) ◦ Talking after strike 3 ◦ Get a drink or leave the gym without asking ◦ Coming to locker room not during your time ◦ Any other behaviors the teachers feel it is necessary

17 Expectations in the Locker Room Can’t go to the locker room if it is not your P.E. hour Locker room doors will be locked ◦ Lock front gym doors Girls enter through main door, Boys enter through the side Stay on the “sand” Behavior: No punching, kicking, climbing, standing on benches etc. or putting others into the lockers ◦ Individually- There might be separate rules for the Girls and Boys Locker Rooms NO CELL PHONES OUT IN LOCKER ROOMS FOR ANY REASON! ◦ Immediate confiscation and could be deemed a Major No Aerosol sprays or glass (sprits yes, mist no)
