7 MIDDLE SCHOOL PHILOSOPHY Middle School is designed to be a bridge between elementary and high school, the ‘tween’ years. Critical components of our middle school: Capturing Kids Hearts RTI Model for Needed Intervention Expanded Elective Programs Guidance and Support Services Extra-Curricular Programs Parent and Community Partnerships

8 NEW SCHEDULE! In order to accommodate our growing student body and maintain small classes we are moving to a 7 period day. The exciting thing about this is the exposure of more electives for our students.

12 7:15 COME TO SCHOOL Students will catch the bus when it’s still DARK out. Waking up earlier - Welcome to Middle School!

13 7:15 – 7:30 STUDENTS VISIT OR EAT BREAKFAST IN THE CAFETORIUM

14 7:30 GO TO LOCKER 7:45 CLASSES START

15 CORE CLASSES CORE CLASSES

16 CORE COURSES Language Arts -Integrated reading and writing approach. -Advanced placement is available for qualifying students. Social Studies Social Studies - Focus on Western Hemisphere. Students are placed in courses based on MAP scores and teacher recommendations.

17 CORE COURSES, CONT. Math District-Wide curriculum “Go Math”. Advanced Math is available for qualifying students. Science Integrated format for life, physical, and earth. Students are engaged in hands-on, lab based projects.

22 ELECTIVES OR - you may choose MUSIC! *Choir and Band are year-long classes. Placement in advanced music classes are made by audition.

25 2:15 AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES Our goal is for every student to participate in at least one extra-curricular opportunity. The majority of our faculty members are involved in leading at least one extra-curricular activity. Over three-fourths of our students participate in extra-Curricular activities.

26 WE OFFER MANY ACADEMIC EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES Science Olympiad Student Council Also: Battle of the Books, NJHS (7 th and 8 th Grade), Chess Club, Poetry Slam, Spelling Bee, Geography Bee, and Speech Club

32 TIPS FOR SUCCESS Reassure your child that it’s normal to have concerns about change and the unknown. Tour the school with your child. Teach your child how to open a master-lock style combination. Attend Open House prior to school starting; pick up your child’s schedule, visit their classrooms, meet their teachers, and get their locker combination.

33 TIPS FOR SUCCESS, CONT. Encourage your child to join an athletic or academic extra- curricular activity. Keep in contact with your child’s teachers throughout the year.  Use Teeland’s website.  Get in a set routine for daily homework.  Sign up for i-Parent to access information.
