6 The underlying principle of right of way rules is to provide safe passage to all other vehicles B should yield to A In a t-intersection the car turning must yield to the car going straight. The same goes for a normal intersection. When merging the car which is merging must yield. When two cars are merging into the same lane the slower lane must yield. When approaching a yield sign check traffic and stop if necessary If your driving on a 2-lane road way and notice a rescue vehicle approaching from the rear with its lights and siren on you should pull over, leave clear path, and let the emergency vehicle pass

7 Most highway-rail crashes are due to diver error When should a driver stop at a crossing? Flashing red lights and warning bell Gates, flashing red lights/ bell Flag operations/ train whistles Special vehicles (ie. School bus) If your car stalls while crossing tracks, get out of the car, if no train hits the car, call police and run diagonally in the direction of the train off o the tracks This sign is an advance warning, look and listen for a train and be prepared to stop This is the same as a yield sign

8 To improve chance of hearing a train’s whistle The box with the number in it at the crosswalk tell how many tracks are at a railroad crossing A train traveling 50 mph takes about 1.5 miles to stop Safety tips Don’t drive onto the tracks if you don’t have enough room on the other side Don’t shift gears while crossing Be extra careful at night and in low visibility conditions If gates lower during cross, keep going, don’t stop or back up Don’t pass others at crossing DON’T STOP Turn down the radio/music Roll down windows
