1 Famous Designers  Giorgio Armani (Italian Designer)  Known for unconstructed jackets, finely tailored menswear, and women’s suits with menswear details; credited with reintroducing linen to menswear and women’s wear.

2 Famous Designers  Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel (French Designer) (1883-1971)  Perhaps the most famous of all French designers; her many contributions include slacks for women, the classic “little black dress,” and suits with boxy, collarless jackets trimmed in braid. The House of Chanel continues today under the direction of Karl Lagerfeld.

3 Famous Designers  Liz Claiborne (American Designer)  Born in Belgium and raised in New Orleans; designed for Jonathan Logan before beginning her own company; known for dresses, coordinated sportswear, and petite collections; also licenses many accessories.

4 Famous Designers  Oscar De La Renta (American Designer)  Born in the Dominican Republic; known for elegant, feminine daywear and “for evening” wear that features luxurious fabrics, such as taffeta, organza, and tulle; also designed the couture collection for the House of Balmain in Paris.

5 Famous Designers  Christian Dior (French Designer) (1905-1957)  In 1947, introduced “The New Look,” which featured a closely fitted bodice and long, full skirt; created inner construction methods to shape dresses in an A, H, or Y silhouette. After Dior’s death, Yves Saint-Laurent headed the House of Dior; today Gianfranco Ferre heads it.

6 Famous Designers  Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana (Italian Designers)  Joined forces in Milan in 1982; their clothes are often described as modern- romantic, with many historical references and pieces designed to be worn in different ways; D&G is their lower-priced collection.
