3 the war started in 1642 when the king raised his own royal standard that was in Nottingham. The spilt between Charles and parliament was such that neither side was willing to back down over principals that they held, the war was inevitable as a way in which all problems could be solved. The country spilt into those who supported the king and those who supported parliament – the classic ingredients for a civil war.

5 Because in 1625 king Charles asked the parliament to raise the taxes to pay the war against the Spain. Charles sent the MP’s home in 1629. He ruled without the parliament for eleven years. Later on, MP’s called this time the eleven years’ Tyranny.

7 Loved: in many battle-particularly the decisive ones at Marston moor and Naseby-it was Cromwell's brave and well-organised cavalry charges that won the day. Hated: this was a national army. It was well led by Fairfax and Cornwell and was well trained and disciplined. It won the important battles at the end of the war.
