1 Color Theory 3 Glue the sample of analogues colors in your sketchbook before starting today’s notes. For paint, you will need one color (primary or secondary) and black and white.

2 Let’s Review What are complementary colors? What is an afterimage? What can warm colors do? What can cool colors do? Give an example of analogues colors.

3 Color Theory Continued… Neutral Colors ◦ Black, white, gray, brown, and beige are examples of neutral colors How can you make brown when mixing colors? ◦ Use all 3 primary colors together

4 Neutral colors are often used to accent or unify a space or design

5 Chromatic: Lots of colors

6 Achromatic Achromatic Black, white and grays. Artwork that is executed without color. Also known as… ◦ Gray Scale ◦ Black and White ◦ Black and Noir

7 Monochromatic: One Color

8 Hue Hue is another word for color. The attribute which describes colors by name. Example: red, pink, cerulean, etc.

9 Tint Tinting is combining white with a color to make it lighter. Commonly referred to as pastel

10 Shade Shade is when black is mixed with a color to make it darker.

11 Tone Tone is when gray is added to a color It can also bring down the intensity of the color
