2. Moscow is the capital of Russia. Of all towns and cities in Russia, the largest and the most important is the Hero City of Moscow. It is a political, an indust- rial and a cultural center. Moscow is also a great transport centre,a port of five seas.

3. The history of Moscow The history of Moscow began in the year 1147. Prince Yury Dolgoruky founded it as a fortress on the bank of the Moskva River.

4. Places of interest in Moscow The Bolshoi Theatre.It is the cradle ( колыбель) of the Russian opera and classical ballet. The theater is called ”Bolshoi” not only because of its size, but because of its great contribution to the development of the classical opera and ballet. It is built in 1853.

5. The Arch of Triumph It is situated in Kutuzov- sky Prospect.It was made by the architect O.Bovet in 1815 to honour the victory of Russia in the war of 1812.

6. Red Square and the Kremlin It is the most interesting place in Moscow. The Kremlin is the heart of Moscow. It is the resi- dence of the Russian government. There is the History Museum on Red Square.

7. Red Square is the place where parades, meetings and demonstrations take place From here on the 7 th of November 1941our soldiers went to the front. And in 1945 there was the parade of winners.

8. St.Basil’s Cathedral It is one of the most out- standing and remarkable monuments of Old Russian architecture.It is the symbol of Russia. The Cathedral was built between 1555 and 1561. It was designed by Postnik, Yakovlev and Ivan Barma.

10. The Moscow University The Lomonosov Univer- sity is a 32-storey building. It was open on the1st of September 1953.In front of the University is a statue of Mikhail Lomonosov,after whom it is named.

11. The Tretyakov Gallery The Gallery is a world-famous collection of graphic art. It was founded by a Russian merchant and idustrialist Pavel Tretyakov.There you can see pictures of I.Repin, A.Rublev,V.Perov,A.Savrasov, I.Shishkin,I.Kramskoy, V.Surikov,V.Vasnetsov.It was In 1906.

12. The Tsar Bell It is the biggest bell in the world.It was built by the Motorins brothers in 1748. The Bell weighs 200 tons. It is situated near the Bell Tower of Ivan the Great.

13. The Tsar Cannon It was made by Andrey Chokhov in 1586. Its weight is 38,4 tons.
