1 Chatsworth High School Graduation Requirements College Entrance Requirements Financial Aid

2 Graduation Requirements  Have 210 credits  Pass the Core Curriculum with a “D” or better  Complete a Service Learning Project  Pass the CAHSEE (Not currently in effect but could change)  Complete 20 hours of Community Service (for participation in ceremony)

3 Core Curriculum  4 Years of English  3 Years of Social Studies  3 Years of College Prep Math  2 Years of College Prep Science  2 Years of Foreign language  2 Years of PE  1 Year Visual Performing Art  1 Semester of Health

4 CCHS Bell Schedule   Current Bell Schedule: Block schedule 8 periods 4 periods/day 40 credits per semester, 80 credits per year 320 credits possible by the end of senior year   2016-17 Bell Schedule: Regular schedule 6 periods All classes meet every day 30 credits per semester, 60 credits per year 240 credits possible by the end of senior year

5 What if I Fail a Class or need to Make-up Credits?  Credit Recovery course at Chatsworth  Go to Adult School (also offered at CCHS)  Take a class at a Community College (also at CCHS)  Take an ROP course (work for credits)

6 California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE)  Must pass the CAHSEE to receive a High School Diploma in the State of California  Take it for the 1 st time in 10 th Grade  Must pass both Math and English sections (with a score of 350 for each section)  If you pass one and not the other, you only have to re- take the section you did not pass.  There are opportunities to re-take it if you do not pass it.

8 Community Colleges  Two-Year Schools  No subject requirements; Must be 18 years old or a High School Graduate  No tests required (No SAT or ACT)  Options include Certificate programs, Associates Degree, or Transfer to 4-Year Colleges  If community college is a possibility, do not wait until spring semester to apply, applications are open now!  Online application, online orientation, assessment

9 CSU/UC A-G Requirements A. 2 years World History, US History, or Government B. 4 years college prep English C. 3 years math - Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 D. 2 years lab science E. 2 years same foreign language F. 1 year same visual/performing art (ex: Painting AB) G. 1 year advanced courses in math, English, lab science, foreign language or social sciences A-G requirements are now in line with Core Curriculum graduation requirements

10 California State University (CSU)  www.csumentor.edu  23 campuses  4 year Universities with degree programs (Bachelors and Graduate Level)  A-G Requirements must be met  Minimum GPA of *2.0 (3.0 recommended)  SAT Reasoning (Critical Reading and Math) or ACT * For GPA’s between 2.0-2.9, students must determine minimum eligibility (Eligibility Index). For example:  2.0 = 1300 SAT (CR & Math only) or 30 ACT  2.5 = 900 SAT (CR & Math only) or 20 ACT  2.9 = 510 SAT (CR & Math only) or 10 ACT

11 CSU Early Assessment Program (EAP)  Seniors: Took Smarter Balance exam as Juniors. Test is used to determine college readiness in English and Math  Level 1 & 2 – not ready  Level 3 – Conditional  Level 4 – Ready EAP portion of the test is taken in 11 th grade Can check status at www.csumentor.eap.com

12 University of California (UC)  www.universityofcalifornia.edu  9 undergraduate campuses; 1 graduate campus  Four-Year Universities with degree programs (Bachelors, Graduate, and Professional)  A-G Requirements must be met  At least 3.0 GPA in (A-G) subjects (Should have a much higher GPA for most campuses)  SAT Reasoning (Critical Reading, Math, and Writing) or ACT

13 Private/Out of State  www.commonapp.org  www.sendedu.org www.sendedu.org  Check specific website for out of state colleges  Programs vary according to size  Prefer students who have met the UC/CSU A-G requirements with at least a 2.0**  SAT I / ACT: Check catalogs for specific test requirements. **It is best to go online to get information on the college/university you are interested in for their specific entrance requirements.

15 Clubs, Activities, Athletics  There are over thirty clubs and organizations on campus.  Chatsworth High School has a variety of girl’s and boy’s athletic programs  GET INVOLVED! Colleges want to see that you did more than just study!  Participate in Community Service  Participating in extra activities can almost be as important as your grades!!

16 SAT & ACT Exams  Seniors: deadlines have passed for Cal State/UC, check for Private/out of state  Juniors: Take new version of SAT/ACT during spring semester of 11 th grade (May/June test)  Register for SAT at www.collegeboard.orgwww.collegeboard.org  Register for ACT at www.actstudent.orgwww.actstudent.org  Flyers and brochures available in the College Office  Sophomores: plan to take the PSAT in October of sophomore year.

18  FAFSA/Dream Act is not filled out until January 1 st (Spring semester of Senior year) and due March 2, 2015  Use 2015 Taxes  Students and parents can sign up for “ID’s” in December  Make sure information you submit on your FAFSA matches information on social security card and school system (name, address, birthdate)  For current Juniors, The FAFSA/Dream ACT will open on October 1, 2016 and due March 2, 2017 (use 2015 taxes) Financial Aid/Scholarships

19  Cal Grant GPA’s are submitted by the district…do not need to send in paper form!
