2 CHATSWORTH HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

4 HEY! WHY AM I IN THE 9TH GRADE AGAIN?  FRESHMAN  0 to 54 credits  SOPHOMORE  55 credits  JUNIOR  110 credits  SENIOR  170 credits  230 credits to receive a High School diploma

5 WHERE DO THE CREDITS COME FROM?  Every class you pass is worth 5 credits.  You take 6 classes each semester.  If you pass all of your classes for the entire year, you will have 60 credits.  If you pass all of your classes for all 4 years, you will have 240 credits.  If you begin your senior year with 180 credits, you only need to take 5 classes each semester instead of 6.

14 WHAT IF I JUST NEED CREDITS? ROC/ROP- Regional Occupational Centers/Programs  West Valley Occupational Center  North Valley Occupational Center  Pacoima Skills Center  Abram Friedman Occupational Center  East Los Angeles Occupational Center See Mr. Pina in C-8!

15 WORK EXPERIENCE PROGRAM  Students in 11 th or 12 th grade who have a part-time job can sign up to be in the work experience class.  Students must work at least 2-3 days a week and maintain a minimum of 12-15 hours a week to earn 5 credits, and 17-20 hours a week to earn 10 credits.  Students must attend a one hour class per week and meet with the career advisor.  Career advisor will make visits to all job sites.  Work permits may be obtained in the Career Center. Students must be 14 years old to apply for the permit.  Students looking for a part-time job will find opportunities at the job window. New job offers arrive daily.

16 PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENT Students must pass the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE). You must pass both the English and the Math sections of the test. You will take it for the first time in the 10th grade. If you pass it then, you will not have to take it again.

17 PORTFOLIO/COMMUNITY SERVICE REQUIREMENTS  The Career Center serves as the “HUB” for the Chatsworth Portfolio requirement for all students. This program is facilitated in homeroom beginning with all 9 th grade students. The portfolio is a compilation of student documents which is representative of the person’s skills, abilities, and accomplishments.  The Career Advisor serves as a resource to maintain community service activities and publicizes opportunities for students to meet this twenty hour graduation requirement.  All seniors are required to have completed the portfolio and community service to participate in the graduation ceremony.

20 COMMUNITY COLLEGES  TWO-YEAR SCHOOLS  NO SUBJECT REQUIREMENTS, MUST BE 18 YEARS OLD OR A HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE.  NO TESTS REQUIRED  OPTIONS INCLUDE CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS AS WELL AS TRANSFER TO 4-YEAR COLLEGES

21 CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY (CSU)  FOUR YEAR SCHOOLS WITH GRADUATE PROGRAMS  A FULL PATTERN OF SUBJECT REQUIREMENTS (A - G requirements)  AT LEAST A 2.0 GPA; ALL GRADES COUNTED EXCEPT P.E. AND ROTC (grades 10-12)  SAT I or ACT

22 UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA (UC)  FOUR YEAR SCHOOLS WITH GRADUATE AND PROFESSIONAL PROGRAMS  SPECIFIC (A thru G) ACADEMIC SUBJECT REQUIREMENTS  AT LEAST 3.3 GPA in (A thru G) SUBJECTS  SAT I or ACT and three SAT II exams: 1) Writing subject 2) Mathematics 3) Elective choice

23 A-G REQUIREMENTS A. 2 years World History, US History or Government B. 4 years college prep English C. 3 years math - Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 D. 2 years lab science E. 2 years same foreign language F. 1 year visual/performing art G. 1 year advanced courses in math, English, lab science, foreign language or social sciences

24 PRIVATE COLLEGES  SCHOOL PROGRAMS VARY ACCORDING TO SIZE  PREFER STUDENTS WHO HAVE MET THE UC ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS AND HAVE ABOVE A 2.0 GPA  SAT I or ACT, check catalogs for specific test requirements.
