1 Welcome to English I Mrs. Barger Room 118 FA

2 A little about your teacher  Grew up in Paradise Bottom, Meade County, Kentucky….  Does anyone know where this is?  Do any of you live there?  Do you know anyone who lives there now? Now, turn to a student near you and ask them where they were born. Don’t forget what they tell you!

3 My family  3 older brothers  1 younger sister  Mom, Virginia, 89 years old  (teacher)  Dad, C. K., passed away on Oct. 31, 2009  (farmer)

4 Alcoholism defined my childhood days….  My father had a drinking problem; quit drinking when I was 16 and never touched it again  My father was in 1 st Marine Division, WWII, and served in the South Pacific for 3 years  He was only 19 when he went to war. Question: have you ever known someone with a drinking problem?.

5 My adult life  Husband Ron  Son Miles, 28  Son Keane, 25  Can you figure out from my photos on the shelf which person is in each picture?

9 Students in my school family

10 Sad to say goodbye….

13 Class rules: We need some rules. Why? What rules do we need? What kinds of problems can occur in a classroom without any rules?

14 Materials and supplies: *Loose leaf paper *Sharp pencils *Ink pens *Notebook that is organized *Composition notebook *highlighters, post it notes Why is it important to come to class with what you need? Think of how you can get organized this year…..

15  Our Schedule Clubs meet one week per month. They meet in the mornings. You stay in AT if you do not belong to a club. Mr. Daily will let us know which clubs meet on what days. So, for example, Pep Club, FFA, and HOSA might meet on Monday. Stay tuned…

16 Lunch Today, your lunch is 11:56-12:21, back in classroom by 12:24.  You will have an account number that you enter on a keypad.  You can borrow lunch money from Tidal Wave Bank, but you have to pay it back! Don’t sweat it if you are running late today. After this week, you will be held accountable for getting back to class on time….next week I will shut the door at end of lunch period and if door is shut when you return, you go to office to get a tardy slip. No exceptions.

17 Accelerated Reader Counts 10% of grade  You can read books on your reading level that YOU choose. Those who never enter the race never cross the finish line.

18 How you will be graded  Daily work  Writing assignments  Tests  Accelerated Reader-pts earned  Accelerated Reader-grades on AR tests
