3. Online Arena Scheduling Step 1: Course Selection - select courses Jan. 25th - Feb. 19th Step 2: Master Schedule - built based on selections Step 3: Arena Scheduling - students schedule classes through Skyward, March through April (dates by grade level)

4. Choosing Courses Select courses wisely Use your transcript, the Program of Studies, parents, teachers, & counselors The courses you select NOW will be the ONLY classes you may schedule during Arena scheduling. If you do not select courses, we will select them for you!

5. Graduation Requirements 4 credits of English, history, math, and science 2 credits of a foreign language 1 technology 1 fine arts 1 physical education.5 health.5 speech (professional communication) 4 elective credits TOTAL CREDITS 26 or more **Class of 2017: DAP requires 4 advanced measures & 3 foreign language

6. Transcripts: ●include all courses taken for HS credit ●need to be checked for thoroughness ●are legal and confidential ●contain GPA only- no rank ●Along with their transcript, students within the top 10% will receive a certificate of rank. ●9th and 10th graders will be ranked at the end of the Spring semester.

7. Select challenging NOT overwhelming classes. If this is the first time you’ll take PAP OR AP classes, ask your current teachers for their recommendations. Select classes based on your post-secondary goals and interests NOT what your friends are choosing. Gains in G.P.A and class rank come from a combination of challenging courses AND good grades. 9. Required Courses - ENGLISH ●English I ●English II ●English III ●English IV

10. Required Courses - MATH ●algebra I ●geometry ●algebra II ●4th year math ●math models can satisfy 1 of the 4 required math credits. Students must complete math models prior to algebra II.

11. Required Courses - SCIENCE ●biology ●chemistry ●physics ●advanced science ●IPC in 8th grade can count as your 4th science

12. Required Courses - SOCIAL STUDIES ●world geography ●world history ●US history ●US government (0.5 credit) ●economics (0.5 credit)

13. Additional Requirements Speech-.5 credits Health-.5 credits Fine arts- 1 credit Foreign language- 2 credits (3 for DAP class of 2017) Technology- 1 credit (denoted with “T” on selection sheet) Physical education- 1 credit Electives- 4 or more

14. Courses & Alternates Fill in a full 8 period schedule (A & B days) You may work on selections through Feb 19 th Skyward will close at midnight on February 19th and no further changes can be made!

15. Course Numbers For full year classes you will need to enter both semesters (ex. 0101A and 0101B)

16. Alternate Courses You must enter a total of 4 alternate courses per semester into Skyward. The ONLY classes you will have access to schedule during Arena scheduling are your selected courses and alternates. Select wisely! If you don’t select enough courses/alternates and are unable to complete your schedule, your counselor will finish it for you with classes that are available.

17. In Summary Make sure you select enough courses to fill 8 class periods + your alternates. more courses now = more options during Arena scheduling SELECT WISELY!!

18. Important Reminders (Dual) If you are interested in taking a Dual course next year, you MUST attend 1 of the MANDATORY meetings to find out if Dual is right for you/you qualify. Parents are also invited, but not required, to attend. Wed., February 10th at 6:30 p.m. (CHHS Aud.) -OR- Tues., February 16th at 6:30 p.m. (GHS Aud.) GHS and CHHS students can attend either mandatory meeting session regardless of home high school. Pre-AP weight, double-blocked, $700+ per year + books

19. Next Steps Students will schedule their selections during the Arena scheduling windows listed below: current Juniors March 28-30 current sophomores April 4-6 current Freshmen April 18-20 current 8th graders April 25-27 The instructional video at the end of this presentation will be posted on the school website prior to the Arena scheduling windows.

20. Schedule Change Policy Courses selections are final and complete. These are your only options during Arena. However, students may request changes during June 6-9 window and/or Aug 1-4 window. Counselors will make schedule adjustments based on course and space availability. Students’ original schedule may be changed.

22. Skyward Family Access Use YOUR Skyward login/password- not your parents’!! Skyward can be accessed from anywhere you receive Wi-fi During Arena scheduling, counselors will be available with iPads 7:45 on Monday Before and after school Tuesday

23. Skyward Login Use your STUDENT login to access your Skyward account. Click on the Then click on “Schedule”

24. Click on “Request Courses for 2016-17”

25. ● Click on the course you want to select on the left side of the page. Then click on “Add Course” in the center to add the course to your selections..

26. Reminders About Course Requests Changes to your Course Requests can be entered until February 19 th. Course requests will close at midnight on the 19th. If you do not enter enough course requests by the deadline, the counselors will add classes for you!
