5 Fungi have eurkaryotic cells (containing a nucleus) and are heterotrophic (must obtain their own nutrients by consuming other organisms). Mushrooms and other fungi absorb nutrients from dead, decaying plant matter. This feeding process is known as decomposition and is classified as being a type of heterotroph.
