.. HFM Distance Learning Project Teacher Survey 2002 – 2003 School Year BOCES Distance Learning Program Quality Access Support Section B Teacher Comments

.. HFM Distance Learning Project Teacher Survey 2002 – 2003 School Year BOCES Distance Learning Program Quality Access Support ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ DL System is an excellent resource for offering additional courses to a variety of schools. It is great to get three different groups interacting. I really enjoy using the elmo and all the other functions of the system. DL allows smaller schools accessibility to courses they would not be able to carry. Also, it allows students from different schools to interact. [It is a] great teaching tool. [It] allows students to take courses that would not be offered at their home school. 1. What are the strengths of distance Learning? Comments

.. HFM Distance Learning Project Teacher Survey 2002 – 2003 School Year BOCES Distance Learning Program Quality Access Support ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ This year we had a few technical problems that were taken care of very well. However, one weakness was my inability to deal with situations at the remote sites effectively, such as: discipline, attendance, eating, drinking, talking etc. [I] needed more assistance. It is difficult to teach a calculator based technical course using DL. It is more difficult to have closer association with students from other sites. The sound due to system incompatibility. Sound quality. 2. What are the weaknesses of Distance Learning? Comments

.. HFM Distance Learning Project Teacher Survey 2002 – 2003 School Year BOCES Distance Learning Program Quality Access Support ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ There needed to be more responsibility taken by the aides in the remote sites. A dry erase board with a camera focused on it..computers in all stations. Larger TV screens for elmo and computer. 3. What changes would you suggest for distance learning classes? Comments

.. HFM Distance Learning Project Teacher Survey 2002 – 2003 School Year BOCES Distance Learning Program Quality Access Support ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ I had expected the remote sites to be more responsive. I had expected a few bumps and problems but was pleased at how quickly my technical concerns were handled. [It was] easier than expected. 4. Are there any outcomes from teaching this course that you had not expected? Comments

.. HFM Distance Learning Project Teacher Survey 2002 – 2003 School Year BOCES Distance Learning Program Quality Access Support ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ Since I had only one student at the remote site I often had her come to the Elmo and use her calculator so I could watch. This wouldn't have worked as well with more students. Power Point was very effective. Comments 5. Did you use any new instructional methods to effectively teach in the DL classroom?

.. HFM Distance Learning Project Teacher Survey 2002 – 2003 School Year BOCES Distance Learning Program Quality Access Support ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ Telephone, mail and faxes. I used e-mail, telephone and personal visits. Yes, e-mail, onsite visits and phone calls [were] very useful for homework. Comments 6. Did you use any other forms of communication with the students in addition to daily …... distance learning classroom instruction (such as e-mail or telephone)?

.. HFM Distance Learning Project Teacher Survey 2002 – 2003 School Year BOCES Distance Learning Program Quality Access Support Comments 7A. Did you visit your remote sites? Yes No No response

.. HFM Distance Learning Project Teacher Survey 2002 – 2003 School Year BOCES Distance Learning Program Quality Access Support ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ Yes. Once so far. This was a great opportunity to personally see the student at the remote site. She did visit here once. [I was able to develop a] rapport with students from [the] other schools and [they were able to develop a] better understanding of my expectations. Comments 7B. What were the advantages / disadvantages to visiting your remote school(s)?
