What did you like about the Distance Learning experience? ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ I think it’s a great opportunity for the students and teachers to have the ability to share in the learning experience in a distance learning environment. I loved every part of it. It was so very interesting so professional! I found it extremely interesting. The level of teaching is superior and the offering of different classes to students is very helpful. The kids get to work with kids from different size schools. I always enjoy watching the students converse and seeing different teaching styles of teachers. I have always liked the connection between different schools. Especially students working together as one. Working with the teachers and we were involved with a new course, Broadway Performances, it was awesome. Good group of students and a great teacher.

What did you dislike about the Distance Learning experience? ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ Sometimes other districts don’t pay attention to the teacher when other schools are trying to speak. Working with the different schools and how each school has a different set of rules. It can be difficult to know what action should be taken. For example; when there are attendance issues. I had a bad mixture of students in one of my classes. Half wanted to learn and half came unprepared to class. No book, no paper, no pen, did not take notes etc. Some of the instructors need to learn how to connect with the classes that are receiving. Faxing work back and forth can be a problem at times. We used Blackboard in our Marine Science and I felt that helped. Some items do not fax well. Teachers need to send them in advance.

Absolutely. Being new this year, I needed to call quite a bit, but Eileen and Bob always made me feel free to call. Yes I did feel comfortable because there was always someone there to assist me. 4. Did you feel comfortable calling the DL toll free number for technical support? All responses said,“Yes, I did.” Comments:

I was very satisfied with the assistance from the BOCES support team. You are the best (never a problem). 5. Were you satisfied with the assistance of the BOCES support team? All responded,“Yes, I was satisfied.” Comments:

What changes would you offer to improve the DL program? ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ Have the teacher send assignments ahead if they need to be copied. Thank you. Have students that have signed up to take classes for next year come into the DL, view the room, look over the contract, talk with the DL Aide and then decide if they really would like to take the class. I would be very willing to do this over the summer. As a group by class, have students come in and view the DL facility beforehand to make sure they are comfortable with the setup and discuss the DL contract. The ability to meet others early in the course so the students and teacher bond faster. Some schools get too involved with the personal things that are going on in their school and the tend to leave the receiving schools out in the cold. The other instructors I've been involved with for the past four years have never done that. Students need to be VERY quiet or it can be distracting. One big issue is the lack of computers available for students. If they had a project to work on that required computers, I had to find various available computers throughout the school. That wasted time.

General Comments ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ Cell phones were a big problem this year in the DL. Guidance should try to screen students a little better [and only place students] who want to take DL courses. Even if it means having 1 -2 students instead of 12 or more who don’t want to be here. I like the variety of courses. I guess there is nothing you can do about it, but a new (first year teacher) should not do distance learning. Could there be a day or two set aside over the summer that all DL aides can get together and meet? This would enable us to get to know each other before school starts. Possibly have teachers attend too, so we all know who we are working with. I would like to thank everyone for making me feel so welcome to the program. Also for being so helpful. It was a good school year. Last year there were static sounds coming through the speakers. We had no sounds this year and we never lost power of the network either. Nice Job guys!
