Grading Scale An A will be given to those students receiving a percentage between 93-100. A B will be given to those students receiving a percentage between 85-92. A C will be given to those students receiving a percentage between 77-84. A D will be given to those students receiving a percentage between 70-76. An F will be given to those students receiving a percentage equal to or lower than 69.

How you write Everything in this classroom will be written in complete sentences. If something you hand in is not in complete sentences, you will not receive full credit. Contractions are functional in making spoken word faster. It has no place in written language in this classroom, unless it is done in dialogue. Please stop using them now. The appropriate time to use texting lingo is in text messages, not at school or work. Please avoid the use of that lingo.

Admittance to my classroom You will show up to class on time with all materials you need to participate in classroom activities. If you require a trip back to your locker to be prepared for this class, you will be given a tardy. If it is homework, it will be counted late. Please do not forget your necessities. Passes will be accepted in 3 forms only: a pass written in your passbook, a hall pass from the office, or a physical appearance from a staff member. Do not bring me post-its or excuses.

Restroom/Drink Please take care of all restroom and drink needs before the tardy bell rings. If you ask previous to the tardy bell ringing I will allow you to be late to the classroom. This should, however, not turn into a daily occurrence. Any students taking bathroom or drink breaks during class time will be given a tardy. This is not a form of punishment. It is a form of accountability; I need to know where you are when I am expected to be accountable for you.

Participation points (Daily grade) Participation points will be recorded each week in this classroom. These points will be based on daily grammar exercises, reading in class, participation in discussion, random whims of the teacher, and having intelligence that shows thought outside of the classroom. These should not be ignored. They will help your grade if you are conscience of them; they will hurt your grade if you ignore them.

Late You are allowed to take one late per quarter as the handbook allows. However, you will not be allowed to take your late on speeches, papers, or projects. Special permission may be given by request only, but never count on this to occur. I will keep a public record of your late on the chalkboard. I will be the one to write your name on the board. If you take your late and never turn in the assignment, you have just wasted that late. Too bad.

Turning in homework When turning in homework for this class, please turn in all pages neatly and without chad. If you turn in homework with chad, I will leave it on the floor until the chad is removed and handed back to me. On every homework assignment you should include your full name, the date that the assignment was due, and the assignment if possible. If you forget your name, I will grade the work and hand it back. However, if you would like me to record that grade for you, you will need to write your name on it and hand it back in to the teacher. This helps keep your teacher organized and get homework back to you faster and more accurately.

Grammar Exercises At the beginning of each class period a grammar assignment will be written on the whiteboard. It is your responsibility to start on that exercise at the beginning of the class. When most everyone is complete, the teacher will go over the exercise with the entire class and give participation points to those who participate. (AP Tract: points given to those with correct answers only) Freshmen will have Writing on Wednesdays. Juniors will have Free Rice on Fridays.

Missing Class If you miss an English class, the teacher will fill out a “We missed you in class!” sheet telling you what we did that day. It will be in the hand- back folder on the back wall. If you do not find one upon your return to class, please take the responsibility of asking for one. It is your responsibility to attain that sheet and make up the work from that day. This includes grammar exercises, reading, writing, or homework assignments. The teacher will not bother you relentlessly about getting your homework turned in. The teacher will simply give you a zero for all homework you do not complete in a timely manner.

Academic Dishonesty “Academic dishonesty, cheating, and plagiarism are serious infractions of school policy. Progressive disciplinary action, which may range from required Study Club attendance, detention, or suspension, will be taken against students who cheat. Any student caught cheating on an assignment of any nature, will be given an automatic zero and be required to make a personal parent contact. Group or cooperative effort on individualized assignment[s] constitutes academic dishonesty.” – your parent-student handbook
