3 English Settlements: Religious Freedom & Economic Opportunity
Jamestown, Virginia (1607) Established by a Joint- Stock company Some indentured servants (worked for their passage to New World) came as well Colony had hard times due to general laziness and the swampy site on which they chose to colonize. 4 Bacon’s Rebellion As Virginia grew, farmers were forced to move west. This lead to clashes with Native Americans, as Native Americans believed NO ONE owns the land. Nathaniel Bacon raised an army to deal with the Native American problems, but turned his army on Jamestown when they failed to support westbound farmers and allow them a voice in local government. *Bacon’s Rebellions was about UNEQUAL DISTRIBUTION OF LAND.
