Type 1 diabetes is an auto-immune disease in which the body's immune system destroys the insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas. It is triggered by environmental factors such as viruses, diet or chemicals in people genetically predisposed Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes. In type 2 diabetes, either the body does not produce enough insulin or the cells ignore the insulin.

Your pancreas naturally produces insulin. The insulin breaks down glucose so your body can use it. If you have diabetes your pancreas doesn’t produce enough or any insulin at all.
