2 I. Define Physical Fitness: The Ability to carry out daily tasks and have enough energy left over for unexpected demands.

3 II. List 3 benefits of Physical Fitness on each of the aspects of your health:- A. Physical Health 1. Reduces chances of acquiring diseases (heart disease, obesity) 2. Gives you a higher energy level 3. Improves your posture

4 B. Mental/Emotional Health 1. Allows you to think more clearly 2. Relieves stress 3. Helps control depression

5 C. Social Health 1. Gives you the opportunity to interact with others. 2. Builds self-confidence in social situations. 3. Reduces stress within relationships.

6 III. Define the 5 components of Health-Related Fitness A. Body Composition – the ratio of fat to lean body tissue.

7 B. Flexibility - the ability to move a body part through a full range of motion.

8 C. Muscular Strength – The amount of force a muscle can produce.

9 D. Muscular Endurance - the ability of muscles to do difficult physical tasks over a period of time without fatigue.

10 E. Cardiorespiratory Endurance – the ability of the heart to provide oxygenated blood to body tissues during long periods of vigorous activity.

11 IV. Define the 6 Components of Skill-Related Fitness A. Agility - the ability to control the body’s movement and to change the body’s position quickly.

12 B. Balance – the ability to remain upright either while standing still or moving.

13 C. Coordination – The ability to use two or more body parts together well, or to use the senses along with the body parts.

14 D. Speed – The ability to move a distance or complete a body movement in a short period of time.

15 E. Reaction Time – the rate of movement once a person realizes the need to move.

16 F. Power – the ability to use force with great speed.
