1. NATIVE AMERICAN CONFLICT WITH THE U.S. GOVERNMENT

RISING TENSION As settlers began to move West the U.S. government began rounding up Native Americans a pushing them on to reservations in order to gain the more desirable land for the white settlers Some groups were compliant and moved to the reservation without much fuss Their spirit had already been broken by things like perpetual hunger due to the U.S. government nearly hunting their food source to extinction

3. BREAKING POINT Some groups had enough and were not going to leave their homelands Some chose to fight right away others simply refused to leave their land and only fought as a last resort Sometimes the Natives won, like the Sioux in Custer's last stand, but most of the time they lost and ended up moving to the reservation Other groups chose to move to Canada where they would have more freedom, but that still meant giving up their homeland to the U.S. government

YOUR ASSIGNMENT Each of you will be assigned a conflict your job is to research this topic and present your findings to the class Your final product should be a diagram on ThingLink it must include: A picture of the incident or at least of the groups encampment enough facts to give us a big picture of what happened at that conflict (min. 3) A short explanation of why it happened (wouldn't move, wrong group, etc. One link to a video or podcast One link to a primary document (court ruling, newspaper, photos, etc.) One link to something modern linked to the event (an apology, national historic site, etc.)
