Quietly… 1.Open your notebook to chapter 11 questions. 2.Have you stamp sheet on your desk. 3.Begin the double sided adverb practice that is on your desk.  You may use your adverb notes. 4.We will check these together after the bell.  Since you have had multiple opportunities to practice with adverbs, this will be taken for a separate 100 point daily grade.  Read the directions carefully and take your time!  If you finish early, sit quietly at your desk and make sure your table of contents in your response notebook is complete and accurate. Yes. The desks are different! Crazy right? Sit in the desk that you can most clearly distinguish as your own, but don’t get too comfortable. We will be moving after the warmup!

Adverb Practice Check Chapter 11 Questions TKAM Part I Discussion Reflection November 6 th, 2015 If you were absent last class, you need to make up your Part I TKAM Vocabulary Test. You also need to pick up the chapter 11 reading questions on the back wall and see me about creating your own questions for discussion.

Guidelines for Discussion  You will be in pre determined groups of 4  Each group will have 3 pages of questions that cover each chapter in Part I of the novel except chapter 1.  You do not have to work through the entire list of questions, but you should aim to discuss at least one question from each chapter.  In each group, there will be one facilitator. The role of the facilitator is to ask questions of the group and ensure that everyone within the group is prompted to participate in discussion.  Credit for discussion will be marked by the following  Positive, respectful participation  Attempted discussion that goes beyond “Yes” or “No” answers  Use of your copy of the novel. Look for textual evidence 35 MINUTES

After Discussion, Quietly…  Turn to the next right side in your notebook. This should be after your TKAM Vocabulary Part I.  Date the page and title it: TKAM Part I Discussion Reflection  You will now independently reflect on the group discussion.  Consider any of the following (these are only suggestions): 1.Focus on three questions from discussion that you found particularly interesting. Record your answers to those questions and reflect on them further. 2.How did the discussion process go? Did it encourage you to understand the novel any more than you already do? This should be one, full page, in length. Be sure to use complete sentences. Keep you writing as tidy as possible, please.

Homework  Complete your reflection if you haven’t done so already.  Read chapter 12 before next class, 11/10  No guided reading questions. We will answer these in class on 11/9  We will be turning in notebooks for a MAJOR GRADE on Thursday, November 12 th.  These will be due at the beginning of class, so you need to have these organized and ready to go when you walk in the door Thursday!

Writing An SAQ  SAQ: short answer question  Open ended question that requires individuals create their own answer. It requires evidence, and usually some kind of reader interpretation.  Looks something like this: How does Cinderella feel after she has been forbidden from going to the ball?  Sentence Starter:  In [author’s name] novel [title of the short story, novel, etc.],  Follow the sentence starter with words from the question to answer the question.
