5  Rules: ◦ Game of volleyball with a bounce ◦ 3 or less hits per side ◦ If it hits the boundaries, it is considered in ◦ Indoor play allows the players to use the bounce off the wall ◦ Encourage volleyball skills and strategies ◦ Ball must go over the net in the air, not a bounce ◦ No blocking or spiking the serve ◦ Serve must be underhand ◦ Rally scoring

6  Set-up ◦ Can use tennis courts or volleyball courts ◦ Can use narrower and shorter courts ◦ 4-6 people on a team for maximum participation  Modifications ◦ Can include 1 or 2 bounces ◦ Can have serve from a bounce ◦ Can change service line ◦ Change attack line ◦ Can use different ball  Omnikin volleyball  Trainer volleyball

7  Rules ◦ Mix of tennis and volleyball ◦ 3 or less hits per side ◦ If it hits the boundaries, it is considered in ◦ Indoor play allows the players to use the bounce off the wall ◦ Encourage tennis skills and strategies ◦ Ball must go over the net in the air, not a bounce ◦ Use a badminton serve for safety ◦ Use rally scoring for ease ◦ **We modify rules to encourage success for our classes. 9  Rules ◦ Use a badminton serve ◦ Birdies hitting the boundaries are in ◦ Can use badminton courts ◦ Can use cone courts ◦ Can use lines and just play 1v1 ◦ Rally scoring

10  Set-up ◦ Can use badminton courts ◦ Can use cones to create courts (squares) ◦ Can use one line or a net to play 1v1 ◦ Badminton courts without a net to play 2v2  Modifications ◦ Bigger birdies ◦ Hold the racket head instead of using the band ◦ No service line ◦ A racket in each hand

11  Rules ◦ Underhand serve from service zone (back half of the box) ◦ Service alternates every 3 serves ◦ Game played to 15 points (must win by 2) ◦ If tied at 15:15 service alternates every serve ◦ Rally point scoring ◦ Points are awarded same as they would be in badminton

12  Set up ◦ Students will set up their own box/square (~4ft- 5ft; whatever your space allows) ◦ Opponent sets up their box in same fashion (~20ft across) ◦ Next set of partners/opponents set up right next door (can share boundaries if space is tight).  Modifications ◦ Different colored speeders for intermural or match play (rubber weights can be added for more speed) ◦ Service can be allowed overhand from behind the box ◦ Doubles can be played by placing two boxes next to each other

13  Rules ◦ Rules mimic volleyball ◦ Students must use their feet to pass and send ball over ◦ If indoors, students can play ball off of the wall

14  Set up ◦ Volleyball net can be at tennis height or higher ◦ Split class into teams of 6 or 7 (or more) ◦ Determine out of bounds lines before first service  Modifications ◦ Students can use other body parts, still NO HANDS! (i.e. knee, head, thigh, chest) ◦ Could allow a bounce in between contacts by players

15  Rules ◦ Serve from inside playing area must be underhand, can serve over hand from behind end line ◦ 3 or less hits to send ball over ◦ Ball can be played off of the wall/ceiling/bleachers (does not count as a hit) ◦ No double hits ◦ Rally point scoring ◦ Team acquiring the service must rotate clockwise ◦ Team celebrations are encouraged!

16  Set up ◦ High or low net ◦ 1 Omnikin volleyball per court ◦ Split class into teams of 6 or as large as 10 (to accommodate larger classes)  Modifications ◦ You could allow hits out of the air, or off of the bounce ◦ Can allow one header per rally

17  Survivor ◦ Teams of 6 or 7 compete against each other to eliminate the other teams’ members. ◦ Team who loses a member acquires the service ◦ Team with members still in win the game.  King/Queen of court ◦ Team/student rotate as specified by the teacher ◦ Students/teams who win rotate toward king/queen court ◦ Students/teams who lose rotate toward challengers court
