1 Good Morning! Tuesday, 12/15 As you come in: Turn in your Transpiration Lab (celery) take out your Comparing Soils Data Table

2  You have 5 minutes to collect your data & make observations.  Don’t forget to water your plants!!  Adding water is a control variable you should be considering. Make sure you add the same amount of water to each of your plants.  Next class will be the last day to collect data  When you are finished, grab a laptop

3 SOILS & PLANTS TEST  Soils & Plants Test Next Class!!  We need to learn about 2 more things: 1. Photosynthesis (in the leaves) 2. Flower anatomy

4 Photosynthesis  Video Video  Follow along while using your 3-D leaf as a guide

5  On the backside of your leaf write this equation: Photosynthesis

6 Anatomy of the Flower  Function  Contain the sexual organs for the plant.  Produces fruit, which protects, nourishes and carries seeds.  Attracts insects for pollination.

7 Anatomy of the Flower  Sepals  Outer covering of the flower bud.  Protects the stamens and pistils when flower is in bud stage.  Collectively known as the calyx.

8 Anatomy of the Flower  Petals  Brightly colored  Protects stamen & pistils.  Attracts pollinating insects.  Collectively called the corolla.

9 Anatomy of the Flower  Male reproductive part  Anther  Produces pollen  Filament  Supports the anther

10 Anatomy of the Flower  Female reproductive part  Ovary  Enlarged portion at base of pistil  Produces ovules which develop into seeds  Stigma  Holds the pollen grains

13 Plant Word Web  Use the vocabulary words provided to create a web of vocabulary words  HINT :  start off at the center with “big picture” words.  As you make your way outwards, the words will tend to be plant parts that are smaller and smaller.

14 Review Soils Quizzes  Use your notes to help you make corrections on your quizzes.  Complete these corrections on a separate piece of lined paper.  Individual assignment.

15 SOILS & PLANTS TEST (next class) You will be allowed to use: 1. one 3x5" handwritten notecard 2. a calculator 3. a pencil on your test Come to class prepared!
