HW: 1) Complete packet page 19 2) Rainbow Lab due Thursday 3) Textbook HW #3 (Section 1-4) due Friday 9/25 4) QUIZ- Graphing Thursday/Friday (day of double period) Do Now: Warm-Up Notebook DateTitle of ActivityPage # 9/22Metric Conversions17

1. How can wemake more detailed observations? Use instruments to measure things… Quantitative observations

Metric Ruler

3. Measuring Length A B C Point A= _____ cm or _____ mm Point B= _____ cm or _____ mm Point C= _____ cm or _____ mm 1.5 15 7.2 72 10.3103 cm What is the distance between A and B? 72mm-15mm = 57 mm

4. How do we measure volume of a liquid? Always measure volume from the bottom of the meniscus! How many mL of liquid are in this graduated cylinder? 11 ml

5. How do we measure temperature? Celsius Thermometer Important temperatures to know: 0˚C- Water freezes 20 ˚C- Room Temperature 37 ˚C- Normal Body Temperature 100 ˚C- Water Boils

6. How do we measure with a triple beam balance? Place all markers to zero.(The pointer should be lined up with zero.) Place object on the plate and move markers until the pointer lines up with zero again. Read markings on slider scale (add values together).
