6 BHS College 101 October 5, 2015 6:00 Parent meeting for seniors and juniors in the cafeteria. We will be presenting on the application process, scholarships, financial aid, letters of recommendation etc.

7 Scholarship and Financial Aid November 9 th 6:00 -6:30 Parent meeting about the TCC Endowment Scholarship in cafeteria. 6:30 PTSA is hosting a college financial planning event.

8 Texas Success Initiative formerly THEA (Accuplacer) College Placement Test— required for Texas public colleges Now includes a Pre- Assessment Activity (PAA) Exemptions for certain SAT, ACT, PSAT scores

10 SAT or ACT? Seniors should take SAT and/or ACT with optional writing tests. Test covers Algebra 2. Check your packet for this year’s dates.

12 TEST PREP It is very import to prepare. There are many free resources or companies you can pay for classes that will help you.

13 SAT II ALL SAT II tests are subject specific. Only take this test IF your college or major Requires it.

15 COLLEGE ADMISSIONS QUICK GUIDE 4 Things: Complete application for college/university Keep a copy for your records. Pay Application fee to college/university Send official transcript to college/university Send SAT/ACT test scores to college/university Meet deadlines

16 APPLY for HOUSING NOTE: Some schools Require a housing Deposit BEFORE you are admitted to the school or university.

17 RECOMMENDATIONS Fill out the request form, make copies, give to the person writing the recommendation. This is your time to sell yourself so brag about yourself and your accomplishments. ALLOW TIME between request and deadline. Forms available in the Counselor’s Office.

18 TRANSCRIPTS  Official transcripts go directly from our office to the institution you are applying to.  Test scores must be sent from SAT or ACT.  $1.00 per document  Request from Janet Adams, Registrar in Counseling Office. I need a transcript, please I’m Mrs. Adams, may I help you?

24 TCC Scholarship Details on BISD website –Enrolled in BISD all of 11 th and 12 th grades –Complete all FAFSA process by August 1 or January 15 prior to enrollment –Set up and check MyTCC e- mails. –Application to TCC for admissions

25 TCC Days October 16 th TCC will be doing presentations through on level Govt. and Eco. classes. If you are taking dual credit or AP and wish to hear the presentation ask your teacher to allow you to attend one of the presentations. October 23 rd TCC will be in the library assisting with PAA(Pre-Assessment Activity) and application to TCC. November 9 th. Parent meeting about TCC Scholarship 6:00 in the cafeteria.
