2 Transforming lives through learning Aims- Seminar 05 November 2013 To develop a shared understanding of the Schools Improvement Partnership Programme To provide an opportunity for the 2 ‘front runner’ partnerships to share their experiences to date in taking forward their projects To support the partnerships in further developing their action plans for their work as part of the programme

3 Transforming lives through learning Background In March 2013, the Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning, Mike Russell, announced a range of approaches to tackle the steadfast link between socio-economic deprivation and low educational attainment.

4 Transforming lives through learning Our first Corporate Plan- The vision Learners in Scotland will progress in one of the most effective education systems in the world, renowned for the ability of national and local partners to work flexibly together to achieve high quality and equitable outcomes for all

5 Transforming lives through learning Corporate Plan: Strategic Objectives Build a world-class curriculum for all learners Promote high quality professional learning and leadership amongst education practitioners Build the capacity of education providers to improve their performance continuously Provide independent evaluation of education provision Influence national policy through evidence based advice poor fair good great excellent

6 Transforming lives through learning Achieving the vision will mean…  Educational outcomes for all learners are improving  Inequity in educational outcomes is eradicated  Public confidence in education is high

7 Transforming lives through learning Schools Improvement Partnership Programme (SIPP) Education Scotland is leading the development of this programme and managing its implementation Steering group involving ADES, COSLA, AHDS, SLS, EIS and the Scottish Government to develop the rationale and detail of the programme Support from university researchers Across schools within and across EAs
