2 Learning Objectives  Student will master writing and reciting the alphabet from A-Z  Will have the ability to associate which words go with certain letters

3 ACTIVTIES  Each day we will have a letter of the day and base everything around the certain letter  Students will complete an alphabet book using an illustration for each letter  In pairs, one student will tell their neighbor a letter and something that starts with it  As a class, students will participate in a letter race

4 ESSENTIAL/UNIT QUESTIONS  What are the 26 letters of the alphabet?  Why do we need to know the alphabet?  What words start with each letter?

5 TEKS  §110.11. English Language Arts and Reading, Kindergarten  (b) Knowledge and skills.  (1) Reading/Beginning Reading Skills/Print Awareness. Students understand how English is written and printed. Students are expected to:  (A) recognize that spoken words can be represented by print for communication;  (B) identify upper- and lower-case letters;  (C) demonstrate the one-to-one correspondence between a spoken word and a printed word in text

6 TEKS cont.  §110.11. English Language Arts and Reading, Kindergarten  (b) Knowledge and skills  (3) Reading/Beginning Reading Skills/Phonics. Students use the relationships between letters and sounds, spelling patterns, and morphological analysis to decode written English. Students are expected to:  (A) identify the common sounds that letters represent;  (B) use knowledge of letter-sound relationships to decode regular words in text and independent of content (e.g., VC, CVC, CCVC, and CVCC words);  (C) recognize that new words are created when letters are changed, added, or deleted;  (D) identify and read at least 25 high-frequency words from a commonly used list
