4 It is very important that your child arrives every day on time. If your child is sick, please be sure to call the office to let Ms. Madison know. If your child is throwing up, he or she may not return to school until they have been free of flu symptoms for 24 hours.

5 Students receive a stamp in their student planner if they have completed their homework along with a signature from parents. No homework AND signature equals a punch in their punch card!

6 Every two weeks I will collect punch cards. Students with no punches will receive a Bobcat Buck. Students with 4 punches or less will participate in free iPad time.

7 RPS 205 uses the standards based report card 4, 3, 2, 1, this does NOT correspond to A, B, C, D, F. 4321 Student has mastered third grade material AND above grade level ‘critical thinking’ task. Student has mastered third grade level work. Student shows some understanding of third grade material. Student shows little to no understanding of third grade material.

8 In third grade, we read a variety of literature. We stress the importance of reading fiction and non-fiction texts. Third grade students should read 20 minutes every night. Students must complete a reading log Mon.- Thur. night for homework, a sample is in your envelope.

9 Students will write everyday. They will write narrative, informative and opinion pieces throughout the school year. Our curriculum is called Units of Study and uses mentor texts to help students understand writing style.

10 In third grade, students will master common core math standards Solving word problems using addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division Place value and rounding Measurement and Data (time, perimeter, area, & graphs, using a ruler ) Geometry (2D & 3D shapes) Fractions using a number line and equivalent fractions

11 In third grade we will learn about… the water cycle & extreme weather States of matter Animal classification (mammals, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and insects) Simple machines Health and nutrition Science and technology

12 In third grade we learn about…. types of communities (urban, suburban, rural) economics local Rockford history Government United States geography

13 Research Projects *Students will do several research projects throughout the year. Information will be presented in a variety of ways. State Historical Woman African American Person Country Animal adaptation Artist Please assist your student in using the internet safely and checking out books from the library to conduct research.

14 Permission Slips will go home a few weeks before each field trip. Included will be what students need to bring on field trip, appropriate attire, and the fee for each student. If interested in chaperoning please inform me as soon as possible.

16 Students get so hungry during our long morning. We have the last lunch (noon). Students can bring a good brain snack and water. Raisins Goldfish Cheeze-its Yogurt squeezers Granola bars Pretzels String cheese

17 Specials operate on an A, B, C rotating schedule. A-Music B-P.E. C- Art This is to ensure students receive teaching time in all specials equally.
