Reading Weekly literature story Focus on reading strategies Summarizing Predicting Inferring Asking clarifying questions Evaluating Building fluency/comprehension skills Reading with expression Target fluency rate by the end of the year is 87 words per minute

Accelerated Reader School-wide independent reading program Builds fluency and comprehension Child earns points for each AR quiz taken and passed (Parents can monitor child’s progress through the Renaissance Home Connect Link under the Accelerated Reader tab on our school website) * Each student should strive to take at least 2 quizzes a week (Unless s/he is reading a longer chapter book) Once a child earns 40 points s/he can participate in the PTA sponsored Reading Royalty lunch. The AR deadlines and lunch dates can be found in the Windrows School Calendar. AR quizzes can be taken on our classroom computers and Chrome books.

Homework Weekly homework packet - Encourage independence & quality work - Check your child’s work once completed - Packets are due on Friday Nightly Reading - Can be story from literature book or an Accelerated Reader (AR) - List of AR books & their Quiz #s can be found on our school website under the Accelerated Reader tab (Click on the AR Quiz List link) - Minimum of 15 minutes of reading each night. - Record book titles on Reading Log and send it to school daily. It is also a BIG help if you can write the AR quiz # also.
