3 Meso-America  1) The Mexica/Aztec Empire made for unifaction in Meso- America, it was a major social development because these lands were basically uncivilized before, with the exception of their nothern neighbors, whom they conquered and spread their social ideas. The society was a hierarchal society, where Priests, Military Elites, and Artisans. They had a prominent god of a polytheistic religion, to whom they made ritualistic blood sacrifices of slaves, who comprised of In-Debted Citizens, Criminals, and Prisoners of War  2) The Inca Empire lead to a unification of the uncivilized lands of South America, thus they were able to develop under the unity of the Inca tribe, and then adopted their social system and ideas. These ideas comprised of a religious society, they regarded the Priest, Aristocrats, and Peasants cultivators. They were military and administrative elites, and their leaders were considered God-Kings. They differed from other Southern American native tribes because they did not believe in blood letting rituals

4 India  The Aryans migrated to India around 1500 B.C.E. They introduced the caste system which separated people based upon their jobs in society, and their skin color. (Varna) Eventually they added the untouchables group. These people were outcasts from society. They had all the dirty jobs, such as collecting trash.

5 Europe  1066 William the conqueror invades England and spreads feudalism. Feudalism was a system of lords and retainers where land was handed down, in return for service. Socially serfs were on the bottom, and the chain worked itself up to the king.  Pope Urban II launches the crusades in an attempt to regain the holy land. Lower class citizens fought without training, and died in what turned out to be a successful failure.  Eleanor of Aquitaine (1122 – 1204) brought troubadours with her to turn rough warriors into polished courtiers. Her work softened the manners of nobility.

6 Thesis  Before 140 C.E. most of histories societies followed a social scale. The arrival of the Aryans in India brought about the caste system which classified people strictly based upon their skin color, and jobs. Meso-American societies sacrificed humans to their gods, as well as honoring warriors. In Medieval Europe, feudalism was a decentralized system of government, that was based upon a hierarchy of lords and retainer. This was essentially one giant social system. The crusades in Europe were also based upon social status; the peasants and lower class citizens were given a death sentence by being sent into battle.
