1 What we are learning! Balanced Literacy The students are continuing a balanced literacy unit based on The Wizard of Oz by Frank L. Baum and discussing the elements of a fairy tale. Reading Students will be in differentiated guided reading groups at their instructional level. iRead is still getting set up for the year, but students are reading on our Raz-kids account and having fun earning their robot points! Word Work This week we begin weekly testing. We will work on a pattern all week. Your homework will have 5 of the ten words and the other 5 will be from the same pattern. Partial credit will be given for parts of words. Word work grades will fall under grammar on report cards. Grammar nouns Writing complete sentences and word order in a sentence. August 17, 2015August 17, 2015 Snacks Update! The kids are hungry by 10:30 so I am allowing a brief snack time. Your child may bring in a healthy snack each day. We will not be participating in whole class snacks. Please do not send fruit cups or anything that spills or is sticky. Some ideas to send in are: crackers, cereal, fruit, pretzels, granola bar, and popcorn.

2 SES TITLE I PARENT INVOLVEMENT MEETING All parents are invited to join us for the SES Title I Parent Involvement Meeting on Tuesday, August 25th at either 9am or 6pm in the SES front office conference room. The purpose of this meeting is to offer you an opportunity to provide input towards the development of our 2015-16 School Improvement Plan, School Compact, and Parent Involvement Policy. You'll also have the chance to help decide how SES might best invest our 1% Set-Aside Title I funds for the 2015- 16 school year. Please join us! *ALL PARENTS ARE WELCOME* If you need to change your child’s regular transportation, please send a note that morning. If you must call the school, please do so by 2:00 with the change. Sending a note that morning in the red folder is the best way to change transportation. Thanks! Calendar August 25 th - SES Title 1 parent involvement meeting September 1 st —Labor Day, No School September 8 th —Progress Reports BELL TIMES Students must be in the building by 8:10 or they are counted as tardy. Dismissal time is 3:10 Please fill this section out, cut out, and return to school. Your child will be entered into a weekly drawing to win a prize from the school. ________ I have read Mrs. Brown’s weekly newsletter. Print Parent Name ___________________________________________ Parent Signature ___________________________________________ Homework You will find a packet with assignments labeled for each day in your child’s folder on Monday. They will be due on Friday. Homework is not graded, but it is checked. It is a great way for you to stay informed with what your child is learning as well daily practice of the skills taught that week.
