2 Youth Boost A program offered through the non profit organization Alberta Youth in Care & Custody Network. Youth Boost is a program created to assist and provide support to youths that face barriers that prevent them from participating in organized sports. Youth Boost was designed by 6 youth ages 11-13 who face numerous barriers that prevented their participation in quality organized athletics. These amazing youth worked together to come up with solution based plans they could implement independently in order to overcome their common and often rare adversities.

3 Youth Barriers Lack of parental support - The parents either could not or would not support their child in their athletic goals. In our 2012 survey completed by the youth and families it showed 100% of our parents were experiencing one or more of the following advertises. 55.6% Parents experienced Mental illness, Depression, Anxiety and other debilitating physical/mental health issues. 61% Reported to have a family member in the home that was living with debilitating physical/mental illness. 27.8% Parents faced a risk of homelessness 27% Were struggling with Unemployment 44.4% Working more then 40 hours weekly just to provide basic needs for family. 66.7% Did not have transportation to provide for their kids to attend practices, games, training. 100% Wished they could provide everything to help their children grow healthy and happy.

4 Success The outcome’s from youth who participated in Youth Boost in 2012 are AWESOME!!! 60% Got into less trouble in 2012 then before they had become involved in athletics with Youth Boost. 68% Reported having better grade in school. 76% Reported having more friends because of their involvement in Youth Boost 84% Reported getting sick less then the year before their involvement in Youth Boost 84% Reported having more self esteem 88% Reported having more confidence 100% Reported to be stronger physically and mentally after participating in football

5 Financial Info AYICCN fully funds this program however the charity has limited finances. Our main funder is the AGLC which provides approximately $64 thousand every 18 months but these funds must cover other programs, directors salary and general office supplies. The following is a basic break downs of the costs for each Youth Boost member. Please keep in mind each youth faces different barriers so some may require more or less then another. In 2012 Youth Boost spent an average of $800- $1400 on each youth depending on their age. $800 for spring and summer off season training/conditioning $ 300- 500 for season team fees $60-$100 cleats $80 equipment, gloves, mouth guards water bottles. $100 annually for food costs $100 annually for transportation (give volunteer drivers gas cards as small thank you)
