TASK 3.2 NatureSDI+ metadata profiles : Final version Dorian Ginane IRD - ESPACE

2 Plan Presentation Goals and Scopes of NatureSDI Plus metadata The Metadata structure – INSPIRE requirements and NatureSDI metadata profiles structure – Normative Structure

3 Goals of the metadata for the project  To allow discovery and use of datasets in a multilingual context  To provide a relevant and comprehensive description of NatureSDI+ datasets : dataset from the nature conservation domain in the scope of the INSPIRE directive.  To give for data providers recommendations and guidelines to build a NatureSDI+ compliant catalogue. Goals and Scopes

4 Scope Modelization of Metadata to describe the following INSPIRE data themes in the framework of NatureSDI+ project Level of description for the metadata record : Spatial dataset and Spatial Data Service Protected Sites (Annex I.9) ANNEX I Biogeographical Regions (Annex III.16), Habitats and Biotopes (Annex III.17) Species Distribution (Annex III.18) ANNEX III Goals and Scopes

5 Plan Presentation Goals and Scopes of NatureSDI Plus metadata The Metadata structure – INSPIRE requirements and NatureSDI metadata profiles structure – Normative Structure

6 Foundation of NatureSDI Plus Metadata Specification INSPIRE Metadata Regulation  Metadata Implementing rules and Guidelines Conceptual Model ISO 19115:2005, Geographic information – Metadata ISO 19119:2005, Geographic information - Services Encoding ISO TS 19139 Metadata XML encoding Metadata structure

7 About materials and feed back to design Protected Sites (Annex I.9) Biogeographical Regions (Annex III.16), Habitats and Biotopes (Annex III.17) Species Distribution (Annex III.18) Based on Dataset analysis and data systematization WP 2.3 Based on INSPIRE DS Protected Sites Metadata structure

8 Organisation and content INSPIRE Implementing Rules for metadata INSPIRE Metadata regulation Metadata are organized through three levels Metadata structure Metadata from the INSPIRE core elements, common to all NatureSDI Plus metadata. Elements are : - Title, abstract, - INSPIRE Theme, - Bounding Box, -...

9 INSPIRE Implementing Rules for metadata Profile for Spatial services Organisation and content Requirements by INSPIRE Implementing Rules for metadata Metadata elements from the INSPIRE Core

10 INSPIRE Implementing Rules for metadata Metadata for all themes Organisation and content Result of the user-needs identified in WP2 Requirements by INSPIRE DS annex I Common metadata elements to all the metadata describing Dataset Elements are : - Spatial representation - Type of geometry : curve, polygon, axis description - Lineage : How the data have been produced. - The coordinate reference system -...

12 INSPIRE Implementing Rules for metadata (table 1 ) Metadata for all themes (table 2) Specific metadata for biogeographical regions Specific metadata for Habitats & Biotopes Specific metadata for Species Distribution Profile for Bio- geographical regions Profile for Habitats & Biotopes Profile for Species Distribution Organisation and content Result of the user- needs identified in WP2 Metadata elements specific for the NatureSDI profile

13 NatureSDI specific elements  For Habitats and Biotopes : Acquisition method : method used to acquire the data.  Species information : Taxon include within the species distribution data.

14 ISO 19115 extension for species distribution Goals :  To identify in metadata the species or group of species which are described in dataset  Build catalog index on taxomomic rank of the species Vernacular Name : Bonelli eagle taxon rank Name : Species Taxon Rank value : Hieraeetus Faciatus authorCitation : Viellot 1822

15 Normative structure ISO 19115 elements Core elements NatureSDI+ Metadata profiles for : - service, - Protected Sites (A I) - Biogeographical region (A III) - Habitats and biotopes (A III) NatureSDI extension - Distribution species

16 INSPIRE Implementing Rules for metadata Metadata for all themes Specific metadata for protected Sites Specific metadata for biogeographical regions Specific metadata for Habitats & Biotopes Specific metadata for Species Distribution Profile for Protected Sites Profile for Bio- geographical regions Profile for Habitats & Biotopes Profile for Species Distribution Profile for Spatial services Organisation and content Finally, six metadata profiles are defined
