2 GA Juvenile Courts have jurisdiction over the following cases. Juvenile traffic offenses. Delinquent juvenile, under age of 17 who commit adult crimes (example, burglary or car theft) Unruly juvenile, under the age of 18 who commit a crime that would not be a crime if committed by an adult (example, running away from home, disobeying parents, being out between 12 midnight and 5 a.m.)

3 GA Juvenile Court Jurisdiction cont. Juveniles under probation of the court Deprived juveniles, under the age of 18 who are neglected or abused by parents or those who have no parents Cases involving children who need mental health services Proceedings involving consent for marriage, employment, or enlistment in armed services when consent is required by law.

5 Juvenile Sentencing Release juvenile to parents Place juvenile on probation Place juvenile in youth development center (YDC) for up to 90 days Commit juvenile to Department of Juvenile Justice Send juvenile to special program (boot camp) Assign other punishment (fines) and special conditions of probation (mandatory school attendance, community service, counseling, or prohibition of driver’s license.)
