1 INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP TEAM MAISA Retreat – June 15, 2015

2 MAISA Instructional Leadership Team The amount of collaboration has been impressive with the General Education Leadership Network. We have accomplished numerous initiatives and professional learning. The state-wide collaboration has elevated staff development and commitment to our locals to another level.

3 MAISA Instructional Leadership Goals  Increase alignment structures for collaboration across the state to reduce redundancy and cost and increase equity  Identify and enhance curriculum, instruction and assessment resources and professional learning  Strengthen General Education Leadership Network  Expand student and parent knowledge and access to high quality CTE programs and work to authentically assess embedded academic credit in CTE programs in order to better prepare students for this global economy.

4 MAISA Instructional Leadership Team 1. Increase alignment structures for collaboration across the state to reduce redundancy and cost and increase equity  Math and ELA Content Consultant Leadership Teams are formed and meeting on a regular basis.  GELN has representatives on the following Committees:  CTE Sub Committee  TRIG Steering Committee  TRIG Classroom Readiness  Michigan Math and Science Centers Network  ELA Leadership  MI ASCD  Maintain ongoing contact with MDE  Consistent contact with Legislative Issues-Brad Biladeau

5 MAISA Instructional Leadership Team 2. Identify and enhance curriculum, instruction and assessment resources and professional learning  GELN partners with MDE, MAC, REMCAM, TRIG, MI ASCD, ant others  State-wide training of professional learning  Review of MAISA Math Units is being conducted  Grammar That Transfers Units have been developed to support a statewide enhancement of the MAISA ELA Units

6 MAISA Instructional Leadership Team 3. Strengthen General Education Leadership Network  Collaboration continues  In process of planning state-wide pd for SAT  GELN research committee is conducting a book study on Collaborative Inquiry for Educators  GELN provided feedback to MDE on science and social studies standards  Standing Committees are set: Policy and Advocacy, Research and Proposal

7 MAISA Instructional Leadership Team 4. Expand student and parent knowledge and access to high quality CTE programs and work to authentically assess embedded academic credit in CTE programs in order to better prepare students for this global economy. State-wide CET Committee with Bill Miller

8 MAISA Instructional Leadership Team  There is good progress on our current goals.  Consideration of MAISA IL Team and GELN could/should have with emerging legislation and other state activity that impacts our collective work. The early literacy funding and recent report, career and technical education and prosperity regions, and future STEM work were used as examples. GELN will discuss at the June retreat (June 17 th and 18 th ) regarding infusing the initiatives in current goals or adding a separate goal.  Thank you to all that have served on the committee. The collaborative ideas and resources generated have been extremely beneficial to our local districts.  GELN works in partnership with IL Team committee to ensure success for students and staff.  Continue to send your representatives to GELN.  Continue the outstanding work!
