2. 2 The Situation Climate change is a challenge Developing and EIT countries are the fastest growing source of GHG emissions OECD/IEA countries have agreed to help the countries grow “sustainably” by assisting them in deployment of clean technologies and practices

3. 3 The Response The CTI is a tool to help developing and EIT countries by: –building capacity –training –disseminating information –identifying needs –adapting R&D

4. 4 CTI and UNFCC The CTI helps to foster the discussions and implementation of the technology transfer aspects of the UNFCCC process. “..Annex II (Parties) shall take all practical steps to promote, facilitate and finance, as appropriate, the transfer of, or access to, environmentally sound technologies and know-how…” (Art.4.5.)

8. 8 Technology Needs Assessments CTI provides technical assistance for technology needs assessments Limited financial assistance is available Currently working with Ghana and Bolivia Collaborating with UNFCCC Secretariat, GEF, UNDP and others on effective methods for technology transfer

14. 14 Online Publication of Energy News Circulates news of activities, findings, events and publications originating within the “IEA Family”, and notably within entities coming under the guidance of the IEA’s Committee on Energy Technology Research and Technology (CERT). It is a vehicle to generate broader cross-fertilisation of energy technology information and ideas between different players in the energy policy community, between different energy technology disciplines and among different countries, both within and outside IEA membership. Its goal is to create wider awareness of the results of work carried out within the IEA Family.
