8 What is the Early Years Foundation Stage ( E.Y.F.S)? The E.Y.F.S. is the stage of education for children from birth to the end of the Reception year. It is based on the recognition that children learn best through play and active learning. It is developed around 4 themes that underpin the EYFS 1. A Unique Child- Observe what a child is learning 2.Positive Relationships- What adults can do 3.Enabling Environments- What adults could provide 4.Learning and Developing- Children’s achievements through the above

Physical Development These are crucial for developing children's curiosity and enthusiasm for learning. Then there are 4 SPECIFIC AREAS 4.Literacy; 5.Mathematics; 6.Understanding the world; 7.Expressive arts and design

13 Uniform All reception children starting school must also have St Mark’s water bottle – these can be bought from the main office St Mark’s red book bag Red hat – this can be left at school all year Other Uniform

14 Starting School All the children will start school on a part-time basis. This allows staff to get to know each child personally. Individual start times – this allows the teacher to meet and greet your child and show them where to put their belongings.

15 My Child’s first day Group One – will start on the Thursday 3 rd September and not come to school on the Friday Group Two – will start on the Friday 4 th September (Group Two will not come to school on Thursday) This information will be written on a letter that will be handed out on Tuesday 23 rd June

16 Induction Monday 7 th September – Thursday 10 th September Mornings 8:55 – 12:00 Friday 11 th September – Tuesday 15 th September Mornings and Lunch 8:55 – 1:20pm Wednesday 16 th September – onwards All Day 8:55 – 3:20pm All children are treated as individuals – if your child is not ready to stay at any of these points they will not have too.

17 Parent Teacher meeting We will be holding a parent teacher meetings on Friday 11 th, Monday 14 th and Tuesday 15 th September There will be a sign up sheet outside your classroom for you to choose a time on your first day at school. These will be a 10 minute appointment for you to talk to your class teacher and begin to build a working partnership.

18 Worship and Class Prayers We have class prayers every day and when we are ready we join the rest of the school for worship.

19 What can you do to help your child’s learning when they begin school? Sharing books, talking about the pictures. Encourage mark making, name writing, shopping lists etc. Encourage children to talk in full sentences. Practise counting at any time- climbing the stairs, shopping etc Play simple board games. Sing number rhymes and songs together. Support any homework that comes home, sounds and number work Encourgae your child to be independent

20 The First Few Days... There can be a lot to remember in the first few days, but please do not worry as your child will quickly be teaching you the routines! All clothing named! Book bag everyday A water Bottle! Encourage Independence! Be on time! School starts at 8:55 and finishes at 3:20

21 Other matters… Please let us know if someone different is collecting your child! Ensure they have your families Password Parent Helpers always welcome – Must fill in a DBS Medical Any sickness, diarrhoea, must be followed by 48 hours absence following the last bout. Head lice are common! Please check regularly and treat as recommended Any absence requires a telephone call or email to the school office by 9:00am If your child is not at school and you have not called or emailed a phone call will be made to find out where your child is Any prescribed medication can only be administered by arrangement with the school office and upon completion of appropriate documentation No non prescription medication will be given

22 Other matters… Are you eligible for FSM (free school meals) www.fsm.lgfl.net This will advise you of your eligibility, you can apply on line or get a form from the school office; we will be happy to help you with your application on line. This is important as the pupil premium money allows school to take on additional staff, invest in equipment, resources and activities to benefit all children.
