5  Clauses: a group of related words with a subject and a verb.  Kinds of clauses: dependent and independent (= true sentence)  What makes a clause independent or dependent?

6  Adverbial clauses (p. 89-97)  Adjective clauses (p. 297-309)

7  Read / annotate Chap 10, p. 89-91, and complete Ex. 10A, p.93-94. Subordination (the adverb clause) is the focus of this chapter.  Read / annotate Chap 27, p. 297-298 and complete the odd numbers of Ex 1 & 2, p.299- 302. The adjective clause is the focus of this chapter.  Read/annotate p. 303 and complete Ex. 3, p. 305. The special rules governing the use of who- whom is the focus of this part of the chapter.
