Impaction: Impaction means that they have more applicants than spots available Some CSU campuses are impacted for all majors Some campuses rank applicants (according to EI) by major Some campuses are not impacted, except for Nursing/Pre-Nursing To search by campus by major for impacted programs, go to: http://www.calstate.edu/sas/impactionsearch/ 10/26/2015

Best bets… Apply to local CSU East Bay and San Francisco State - Alameda County residents given priority at both Look at CSU eligibility-only campuses such as Stanislaus, Bakersfield, Dominguez Hills, East Bay, Maritime Academy, Channel Islands

CSU campuses with local area preference admissions policies: Chico Fresno Humboldt Monterey Bay Northridge Pomona Sacramento San Bernadino San Francisco San Marcos Sonoma 10/26/2015

CSU campuses with all programs impacted: Fullerton Long Beach San Diego San Jose San Luis Obispo 10/26/2015

Western Undergraduate Exchange Students who are residents of WICHE states may enroll at participating two- and four-year college programs outside of their home state at a reduced tuition rate. WICHE states include: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wyoming. Website: wiche.edu/wue Some GPA, major, tests score requirements

10/26/2015 Private/Independent Colleges 75 Independents in California alone 9 out of 10 receive financial assistance Many schools guarantee 4 year graduation Every admission file is personally reviewed Classes are smaller with actual professors Personal attention to succeed in college/life Costs and admissions standards vary widely Test scores can open access for financial aid

Other Out-of-State Options Researching scholarship opportunities can save a lot of money Test scores often drive scholarships – so test early and often. Some schools “superscore” and others have policy about “single best sitting” Many schools outside of California have a higher four-year graduation rate due to differences in funding at the state level 10/26/2015

Who should consider a California Community College? Students choose to attend a Community College for many reasons: Undecided on academic or career goals Have not met requirements for admission to a 4-year directly out of high school Second chance at first choice of 4-year school Are not ready or able to leave home Want the affordability of community college Want additional academic preparation or exploration in specific academic areas 10/26/2015

California Community Colleges Transfer Programs/AA & AS/Certificates All students should take “a-g” requirements in high school, especially MATH if they wish to be in a Transfer Program DUSD Concurrent Enrollment Program for 10-12 graders (earn HS and College credit) Average fees $1400/year ($46/unit) No SAT or ACT testing required; won’t substitute for CC’s own Math and English assessments Come to Community College Night at DHS on January 27, 2016
