3 SAT vs. ACT ACT (American College Test)ACT –Predominantly used by schools in middle-U.S. states –Consists of four tests: English, Math, Reading, Science, and Writing –Has Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, & Trigonometry –Writing component is optional –No penalty for wrong answers –Top composite score is 36 SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test)SAT –Predominantly used by East and West coast schools –Consists of three tests: Verbal, Math, Writing –Has Arithmetic, Geometry, Algebra, Algebra II, Statistics/Probability –Lose ¼ point for each wrong answer –Each test is scored on a scale of 200-800

5 SAT SAT I /SAT II Test Security Changes include: Provide acceptable photo during registration (This photo will be on your Admission Ticket) Photo must be clear, properly focused and correct exposure Be taken in full face view, directly facing the camera The photo must match how you will look on the day of the test and in your photo ID Must present Admission Ticket with Photo ID to enter the test center Standby test takers will not be admitted Changes to test center, test date or test type will not be permitted on test day.

7 Applying for College Apply online Common Application www.commonapp.orgwww.commonapp.org URI and RIC are Common Application Schools Directly through individual college websites Paper Applications – very few college are utilizing this method All your college application activity needs to be shared with your guidance counselor!!

8 Applying for College Things you will need to do for your application process to go smoothly A Current Resume Teacher/Coach/Advisor recommendations (ask early) College Essay (Proofread your work) Counselor Page (Transcript and recommendation) SAT Scores (sent directly through College Board website) Supplement Application (if required) Application Fee All your college application activity needs to be shared with your guidance counselor!!

11 Important Deadlines URI Application Deadline - February 1, 2016 Early Action Deadline - December 1, 2015 Merit Scholarship – December 1, 2015 (Recommended) Involvement and leadership in school/community GPA of 3.2/4.0 Combined SAT score (critical reading and math) minimum 1050 or ACT of 23+ (Nov. last test date to qualify for Merit Scholarship) Rhode Island College - March 15, 2016 Presidential Scholarship – December 15, 2015 Class rank of top 30% Combined SAT score (critical reading and math) of 1100 or ACT of 24 (Nov. last test date to meet deadline for Pres. Scholarship)

The ASVAB provides you with career information for civilian and military occupations and is an indicator for success in future endeavors whether you choose to go to college, vocational school, or a military career.
