 The more education and/or training you can get, the more income potential you will have and the less likely that you will be unemployed.  Therefore, finding the right postsecondary program that “fits” you will become very important to you and your family.

Consider the following when choosing a college… Program of Study In-State or Out-of State Public or Private School Size and Class Size Student Activities Location Physical Surroundings Housing Options

 Postsecondary schools do not offer ALL programs of study. You will need to be very sure the college you select will offer the training you will need to meet your career goal. Which degree does your career require and does the school offer that degree. If you are planning to transfer, will your second school accept your 1 st school’s classes?

 In-state tuition is less expensive than out-of-state.  The HOPE Program is for schools in Georgia.

 Public schools generally have less restrictive admission requirements and cost less than private schools. Publicly funded state schools are generally more accessible than private school. Private schools, however, often offer smaller class sizes and a more personalized education.

 At large universities, you may be in classes that range from 25-500 students. At small colleges, classes usually range from five to 100 students.

 You should determine if the colleges and universities you are considering offer activities with which you would like to get involved.  Division I athletic team, coral music, band, radio station, religious affiliations, sororities/fraternities

 Location must be taken into consideration when it comes to housing, transportation and access to off-campus activities.

 Does the environment focus on politics, school spirit and tradition? Visit colleges to get a feel for the atmosphere.

 Check campus housing policies: ◦ Will transportation be a problem? ◦ Is dorm life for you?

 You must have scores to apply to college. See individual college websites to see entrance requirements.  You must have scores to apply for most scholarships. See scholarship applications or websites to see required scores.

 In order to attend the fair, you MUST register.  Go to www.gotocollegefairs.orge to register. ◦ Students may take out their phones at this time.  Once you register, you must have a printed ticket to attend the fair.  This event can help you gather information you will need to apply to college.  Complete “Finding the Right College” worksheet to help prepare you for the upcoming event.
