Edgar Allan Poe lived a misfortunate life full of sadness. His mom and wife died of tuberculosis. His adopted father John Allan died and left him nothing, he described Poe as an ungrateful child. Poe was a great writer now known for his poems and short stories but still was not able to land a steady job. The largest sum of money he ever got from a poem was fourteen dollars. He won this money in a contest. POE BIOGRAPHY

His wife Virginia was 13 when they married. Poe and Virginia may have been cousins but that did not come in the way of there love for each other. Poe had a bad habit of over drinking. Poe was in a group to stop drinking though he still did. This wicked drink may have even been the cause of his death. No one knows what really happened. He was found unconscious on the side of a road, someone recognized him and called his friend to come pick him up. He was taken to the hospital and died four days later. POE BIOGRAPHY

I think Poe’s cause of death was alcoholism. He was trying to stop drinking. Maybe that night he went over board and killed himself. He was even in a group to stop drinking. Although there many theories about how Poe died I find this the most logical. THEORY OF POE’S DEATH

The masque of the red death was a story about dying from tuberculosis. People walked through each room. This was representing your life. When you got to the last room a skull like man walked in and everyone died. His mother and wife both died of this. THE MASQUE OF THE RED DEATH

Each room represents a stage of life. Blue was birth, Purple was growth, Green was youth or the spring of life, Orange was summer or autumn of life, White was age, Violet was darkness and Black the last room with scarlet windows was death. There was no red room because that would mess up the meaning of the story. This was almost like Poe’s worst nightmare. Everyone he truly love died of this horrible disease in the real world.

: Poe was the modern day father of horror stories mostly because he wrote many scary poems and stories. He always seemed depressed and vented this in his poems. The raven and The masque of the red death are a few of Poe’s stories. Poe was a great writer but could never keep a job. He died young and was not very successful in his lifetime. CONCLUSION
