Edgar Allan Poe led a very sad and depressing life. Much like mine, his family members and friends deaths were a little spaced out and pretty heavy. He was born in Boston on January 19 th 1809. His mother died when he was only two. It was 1811. since Elizabeth Poe was a single mother Edgar was adopted by Mr. and Ms. Allan. When he was six he went to school for five years he learned a lot; mostly other languages and basic math. He soon joined the army in 1827 when he was 18. He eventually reached the rank of sergeant major. 1829, Ms. Allan died. BIOGRAPHY ON POE

He went to west point in 1830. in 1831 he found his talent for art and literature. 1836 he married his cousin Virginia even though he was in his mid-20’s and she was 13. He was very happy with her. He moved to Philly in 1838 and published a piece called “Ligeia” and another called “The Haunted Palace”. On January 29th 1847 Virginia died of tuberculosis and this just destroyed Edgar. He ended up picking up his drinking habit again. He also took a wrong train to Baltimore. He got wasted and passed out and eventually was hospitalized. He died on October 7th 1849. BIO (CONTINUED)

I believe that Poe was not murdered… In fact I have my own theory. I think he went out and drank himself into oblivion. Then, out of depression, he dressed up as he would if he was still young. Eventually the poor man died from alcohol poisoning. THEORY ON POE’S DEATH

Dream-land This poem was about his dreams and feelings after the death of Virginia his cousin and wife. You can obviously notice the depressed tone and the sadness in the ghostly literature. MY FAVORITE STORY/POEM

It explains his sub-concious thoughts on the world he lived in by himself. FAV. STORY (CONT.)

He was the father of the modern day horror story because of the depressed mood he always set in his stories. He also had people die a lot in his poems and stories. He was never writing a happy story (and if so, he somehow slipped hints of depression into it). CONCLUSION
