2 Cook Co - All Departments Analysis – Almost $0.7 Million Total Incurred over 6 Years – Sheriff’s Office, Jail, account for 43% of Claims and 18% of $s – Fire Dept. / EMS accounts for 15% of Claims and 4% of $s – Road Dept., Sanitation account for 37% of Claims and 78% of $s – Sheriff’s Office, Jail, and Road Dept. / Sanitation for 80% of Claims and 96% of $s Recommendations – Conduct additional analysis on trends within Sheriff’s Office, Jail, and Road Dept / Sanitation

4 Cook Co - Sheriff’s Office / Jail Analysis – Incidents during training (Ergonomics, Non-Category, Law Enforcement Operations, and Slip & Trips) account for 14% of Claims, and 71% of $s – Altercations (Inmates / Suspect) account for 21% of Claims and 4% of $s – Slips Trips and Falls / Foot Pursuits account for 10% of Claims and 21% of $s – Motor Vehicle claims account for 14% of Claims and 1% of $s – 24% of Claims #s and 92% of total incurred $s come from Training and Slip, Trip & Fall type claims. Recommendations – Develop Safety Problem Solving Teams within Sheriff’s Office to focus on reducing Training and Slip, Trip & Fall type claims Conduct additional focused analysis Develop and communicate loss reduction goals Develop, communicate, and implement loss reduction action plan – Implement training on Slips, trips and Falls – LGRMS can assist with this STF training – Implement or enhance Safety Training Officer Concept – LGRMS will be offering this training in the fall of 2015

5 Cook Co - Roads Dept / Sanitation Analysis – Ergonomic / Lifting / Push/ Pull type Claims ( Lifting, Shoveling, Pushing Pulling) account for 36% of Claims and 94% of $s – Slip, Trip, Falls account for 16% of Claims and 0% of $s – Entering/ Exiting Motor Vehicle account for 12% of Claims and 2% of $s – 64% of Claims #s and 96% of total incurred $s come from Slip, Trip & Fall, Ergonomic, and Entering/ Exiting Motor Vehicle type claims. Recommendations – Develop Safety Problem Solving Teams within Roads Dept / Sanitation to focus on reducing Slip, Trip & Fall, Ergonomic, and Entering/ Exiting Motor Vehicle type claims Conduct additional focused analysis Develop and communicate loss reduction goals Develop, communicate, and implement loss reduction action plan – Implement equipment changes – Implement training on STF and Ergonomics – LGRMS can assist with this type of training
