CORE KARES Lesson Plan B August 26, 2015  This lesson is intended for use by teachers who have NOT run the lesson plan from Friday, August 14 th. This was the PowerPoint lesson with situational pictures and was created by our Student Council.  Today our students will review our PBIS matrix and learn about PRIDE points; how they’re earned and how they can be used.  This is actually two lessons combined into one, so please be mindful of your 33-minute class period!  Time permitting, run the Jeopardy game after all questions have been answered. Each student should have a copy of the PBIS Matrix prior to game play. Note that you MUST click the home icon after revealing each answer in order to return to the game board! Feel free to award PRIDE points for correct answers!

What Teachers Need to Know About PRIDE Points! PRIDE points will start being handed out on Thursday 8/27 first thing in the morning. PRIDE Points will be given to you this Wednesday at PD. Pep-Assembly Thursday (we are using a reverse CORE schedule) This is required assembly- a seating chart will be provided ASAP. Please ask questions if you need clarity on how the points will work. Just a quick re-cap on how the PRIDE points will work: Students hold onto their PRIDE points (MYP teachers please reinforce strategies on how to keep these safe ex: zipper pocket in notebook). Teachers will be provided 50 pride points every Wednesday @ PD or in boxes if we are not meeting as a group for PD). We are hoping all teachers will use their 50 points in a week, the minimum to hand out is 25. Only hand out 1 PRIDE point for each desired behavior. When handing out the PRIDE point, tie it to a PRIDE value (principled/respectful/Integrity/Do the right thing/Excellence). Even better- tie it to a specific area on the matrix in where the value was shown. Bring ALL redeemed pride points to Wednesday PD to turn in for weekly drawing on Friday (If we do not have PD we will let you know how to turn in- still working that out).

What Teachers Need to Know About PRIDE Points! (continued) Students will redeem their PRIDE points with you if you are a school wide reward provider (ex: Andre computer lab M/W/F). Students will redeem with you if you have created a classroom-specific reward. You may use food for a teacher/classroom specific reward if you abide by the following: It is healthy in nature (no outright candy, soda, energy drinks, chips) AND you are clear on when they can consume it: your classroom, lunch room, before or after school) and that if they consume it anywhere else it will be subject to disposal). You may use electronic use in your classroom as teacher/classroom specific reward if you are explicit with students that it is ONLY your classroom and when you deem appropriate and if they have their electronics out during other times electronic policy will be enforced and if it becomes an issue, we will have to reconsider this reward option. Please also know that if you choose this as an option in your classroom you must properly supervise the electronic use. If you choose this as an option in your class please make the PRIDE point cost 2 PRIDE points in order to create consistency for those using it. Students will receive PRIDE points from adults on campus other than yourself (monitors/admin/office staff/counselors etc.). Press the F5 key now to show this in full-screen mode and activate the animations. Please show your students the remainder of this PowerPoint and have them participate in the activities that it requires. Press the F5 key now to show this in full-screen mode and activate the animations.

Teachers, this lesson was created through the efforts of Student Leadership & Service. The members ask that you give each slide no more than a few minutes. Students, be prepared to write a short reflection about the PBIS matrix and what you have learned about PRIDE at Safford. Please review the PBIS matrix. GO HUSKIES!

Excellence How would we demonstrate Excellence while on the Bus?

Now that you have reviewed examples of the Safford Husky PBIS / PRIDE matrix, write a paragraph summarizing about what you have learned about in class today. Husky PRIDE

PRIDE Points When you consistently demonstrate your Husky PRIDE, you can expect to earn PRIDE points! PRIDE points can be awarded to you anywhere on campus by administrators, teachers, and monitors. SAVE your PRIDE points because they’re valuable and can NOT be replaced if lost!

Here’s a PRIDE Point! Front side: Back side:

Important facts about PRIDE Points Remember, PRIDE Points are like money here on the Safford campus! Store them in a safe place like a zipper pouch in your notebook! They may NOT be altered in any way (for example, whiting out one student’s name and replacing it with another student’s name). If this happens, the PRIDE Point becomes void! The PRIDE Points Menu may be changed throughout the school year, so check the posters often! The following slide shows the current PRIDE Points menu.
