Participation is encouraged throughout the year in events such as: Red Ribbon Week CATCH Program (3 rd Place District Wide) 100% Fitness Gram Participation Mighty Flying White Wing Running Club Tutus & Tiara’s Mother’s Day Event Annual School Health /CATCH Fair United Blood Service Participants Keeping Kids Healthy Nurse Presentations Breakfast, Lunch & Supper Food Service Program Presentations by Cafeteria Manager. Parents Participate in meetings exploring State instructional and assessment expectations/Content Area Curriculum Parent Participation in Family Outreach Programs: MEND, Texas A& M AGRILIFE Program At-Risk After School Tutorial Participation is well supported by parents with 1 st -5 th grade attendance rate at 90%. Participation in Community Events such as Jump Rope for Heart, Vive Tu Vida Brownsville, Thanksgiving Canned Food Drive ……

5 Raquel Peña Elementary 21 st Century Workforce Development rated Recognized College & Career Readiness Community Members are invited to present to students regarding services and careers opportunities such as: Brownsville Police Department National Wildlife Association Brownsville Children’s Museum Mini Maker Studio Peña Elementary staff supports the District’s Rock Your Future Generation TX College Awareness Event by wearing College /University T-Shirts. Grade Levels are designated a college. Students are given information regarding the college/university through visuals, mini college applications and a variety of classroom activities. As part of the Rivera ECHS Cluster, Peña students participated in a K-5 th grade STEM initiative that involved students working collaboratively to solve a question about Space.

6 Raquel Peña Elementary Dropout Prevention Strategies rated Exemplary Attendance & Tutorials After school tutorials are conducted three times per week and start during the Fall semester for 3 rd -5 th students. At-Risk 1 st -2 nd students are offered tutorials on Saturdays during the 2 nd semester. Students are encouraged to come to school every day. Once a six weeks, prizes are raffled out to students having perfect attendance. Attendance rate for At-Risk students is 97%. Students are monitored through Response to Intervention plans and recommendations are made for appropriate services.

7 Raquel Peña Elementary School Second Language Acquisition rated Recognized Second Language Acquisition English Language learners are provided with cultural awareness lessons throughout the year such as Dia del Nino Around the World Day. ELL students in the US schools more than four years are provided intervention plans that reflect supplemental academic/linguistic instructional support. Full day PK programs are offered at Peña Elementary. Students increase their listening, speaking, writing and reading skills through activities such as Reader’s Theatre and Weekly Writing samples.

8 Raquel Peña Elementary School Digital Learning Environment rated Recognized Digital Learning Enviroment Peña Elementary is one of the collaborating campuses chosen to participate with GOOGLE. Students use applications such QR codes to complete lessons skillfully-planned by teachers. Technology integration is on- going with the use of programs such as Think Through Math, IXL, Accelerated Reader. Students have access to technology in the classroom as well as in any of the four computer labs available.

9 Raquel Peña Elementary School Educational Programs for G/T rated Recognized Educational Programs for G/T Gifted and Talented program participants have an opportunity to engage in activities that explore multiple intelligences through programs such as: Choir Honor’s Choir Dazzling Wings Dance Team Reading Restaurant Library Elves Destination Imagination Science Fair Chess Library Wax Museum U.I.L. (Division IV-1 st Place) Teachers teaching GT students have 30 Core hours of training and 6 hours of GT Ongoing Training.
