2. Fine Arts Program rated Exemplary Canales Elementary is rated Exemplary in Fine Arts due to the various events that our students have participated in. Our campus drumline was video taped and showcased by KBSD. The drumline also participated in the Veterans Parade. The Canales Conjunto is made up of 5 th,4 th and 3 rd grade students. The Conjunto has been featured at Vermillion Restaurant, Charro Days Parade and in the Brownsville Herald. The Conjunto was accompanied by the Canales drill team. 3. Wellness and Physical Education Programs rated Exemplary Canales Elementary is rated Exemplary in the Wellness and Physical Education Program. Canales students and parents participated in Zumbathons that were organized by our Drill Team sponsors. Students and parents enjoyed hours of music and physical activity. 4. Community and Parental Involvement rated Recognized Canales Elementary is rated Recognized in the Community and Parental Involvement area. Parents gathered in the parent center on a weekly basis. Meetings included presenters who presented on different topics such as dyslexia, TLI strategies, Healthy eating and more. 5. 21 st Century Workforce Development rated Recognized Canales elementary is rated Recognized in the 21 st Century Workforce Development area. This school year our campus encouraged students to begin thinking about their future and college. Our campus hosted a career fair where students were able to see Brownsville firefighters, Cameron County Sheriff deputies, State troopers and other agencies. To motivate student success in the STAAR test our campus had a STAAR rally in which the drumline performed. 6. Second Language Acquisition Program rated Exemplary Canales Elementary is rated Exemplary in Second Language Acquisition. Students at Canales Elementary celebrate Thanksgiving by reading pilgrim passages and acting them out. Our students practice their sentence writing skills in groups of four. Working in groups encourages cooperation and peer learning. Canales Elementary

7. Digital Learning Environment rated Recognized Canales Elementary is rated Recognized in Digital Learning. Students at Canales enjoy working with technology. Students use calculators to figure out Math problems. Different student needs are met through Reading Software. This software reads the story to students as they follow along. Students are encouraged to explore the Campus website to see the different resources available for parents and teachers. Canales Elementary

8. Dropout Prevention Strategies rated Exemplary Canales Elementary is rated Exemplary in Dropout Prevention Strategies. Our Canales students participate in afterschool Science tutorials. Afterschool tutorials allowed students to work on hands on projects. Students also participated in Saturday academies where they were able to work in small groups with manipulatives. Our campus encouraged and supported the Math Software Think Thru Math and students would participate in this extra tutorial in the mornings. Canales Elementary

9. Gifted and Talented Program rated Recognized Canales Elementary is rated Recognized in the Gifted and Talented program. Our students competed in the district Destination Imagination. Canales Destination Imagination students participated in a Day at Palo Alto battle field.
