1 Curriculum & Expectations Supplies, Dress Code & Procedures

2 What should be in your backpack?  Agenda (provided by KMS)  Pencils, pens, and highlighters (green, blue, yellow, pink)to be used in all classes  Library or reading book for when they are they are finished with class work  Flash Drive  Supplies for each core class

3  Parent buys supplies for their child ONLY!  Teacher does not provide classroom supplies for each student.  Keep in a study area for your child to replenish when needed.  Buy multiple items now, while cheap. Individual Student Supplies

4 Supplies: Math  Pencils with Erasers- NO PEN  Preferred mechanical pencil but must have lead.  Calculator-write your first and last name on it  One subject spiral notebook (college ruled preferred)

5  2-2 pocket plastic folders  Pencils with Erasers  Handheld pencil sharpener  Blue or Black Pens  Red Grading Pens  2 packages of Index Cards 3x 5  2 composition notebooks

6 Supplies: Science  Binder with 5 divider tabs to be kept in class.  Loose leaf lined paper for binder  Pencils with Erasers and sharpener  Red Grading Pens  Crayons or Colored Pencils

7 Supplies: Social Studies  1 Composition Notebooks  1 Folders  Pencils with Erasers  Colored Pencils  1 package of Index Cards-3 x 5

8 Donations for Teacher  Whiteboard Markers  1 Colored Ream of Paper  2 White Reams of Paper  Packages of Loose Leaf Paper  Construction Paper  Graphing Paper  Tape  Kleenex  Clorox Wipes  Hand sanitizer

9 Be On Time  Please note there is a strict tardy policy for students at KMS  Students should not be on campus before 8:00 a.m.  Make every effort to get your child to school on time  1 st tardy: Warning  2 nd tardy: Parent Notification  3 rd tardy: In school Detention  Be prepared for continued detentions and conduct referrals in the event of continued tardiness  State law requires that ALL students attend school

10 Dress Code Reminders In accordance with District Policy:  No spaghetti straps. Students may wear straps approximately 2 inches in width.  No midriff or stomachs showing.  No ‘short shorts’ or very short mini-skirts.  No underwear showing.  No gang or obscene clothing, designs or colors.  No weapons or illegal substances displayed on clothing.  No hats in the school building but may be worn outside.  Determination of whether or not a student is in violation of the dress code is made by an administrator.  Please Note: If a student is sent for a dress code check, they are missing valuable class instruction time.

11 Hall Procedures  Doors are open during passing periods. Students may enter classes upon permission, when the teacher is present in the room.  Students have 3 minutes for passing period to use restrooms, get drinks and get to class on time.  Students are expected to be in their seats with supplies ready when the bell rings.  Students must sign out when leaving the classroom.  Students may not leave the classroom during the first & last 10 minutes of the period.

12 In- Class Procedures  In order to achieve success, hard work and critical thinking are necessary. Students must remain on task in the classroom.  Off-task and disruptive students will be refocused to another classroom. If the behavior continues, a student will be sent directly to ISI. (In School Intervention room).  Student success depends on completion of all work prior to assessment. It is important to be in class EVERYDAY, mentally & physically.

13 Grading Policy 6 th Grade Classes Homework/Class work20% Tests/Quizzes/Projects80%  Grades at or above an 89.5 are rounded to an “A”

14 Homework  Your child can expect 30-45 minutes of homework every day.  Serves as practice for skills learned in class  Should be completed by student - It is okay to help, but working through tough problems is an important skill to be learned

15 Late Work  Students will be expected to complete all class and homework on time.  In the event that the work is late, the student will not receive full credit, but the student is still expected to complete the work.  Work is assigned in order to give the student practice of a concept.

16 Attendance and Assignments  All homework must be made up when absent  Students have equal days as days absent to make up work  It is the student’s responsibility to determine missed assignments and copy missed notes upon return to class  All assignments are on the board for the week, and will be recorded each in their Agenda  Students should keep their agendas current  E-mail the teachers in advance if your student is going to be absent in order for us to provide work.

17 Snacks  Students will be allowed to bring in a healthy snack to eat 5th period  Water  Fruit/vegetables  Crackers/granola bars  String cheese  No C’s (candy, cookies, cakes, chips)  No snack that requires utensils to eat

18 Tax Credit  Donations can be up to $400 for couples or $200 for an individual.  Tax credit donations can be made by giving a check directly to the school with the group/activity specified KMS, 6 th grade  Checks or a copy of your on-line receipt should be given to your 5 th period teacher.

21 Language Arts Focuses on:  Writing  Reading  Grammar  Literary Concepts  Book projects every quarter  20 minutes reading every Monday- Thursday. Parents sign on Thursday  Holt Literature and Language Book
