5 How can I find out what’s going on at school?  If you have email, you may subscribe to District 215’s Quick Notes by going to the district website: tfd215.org  Meteor Messenger will be mailed to parents monthly, with a calendar of events attached.  Ask your child (you’d be surprised how far this can go)

6 GRADES  PROGRESS REPORTS  REPORT CARDS  TRANSCRIPTS

7 How are grades determined?  Each marking period is worth 2/7  The final exam is worth 1/7  ___% X 2 =  ___% X 1 =  Total /7 = semester grade

8 Report Cards Report cards are mailed 3 times a semester. –The first report card of each semester is held for Parent-Teacher Conference night. –October 9, 2008 & February 26, 2009 –2:30-4:30p.m. & 6:30- 8:30p.m.

9 Transcripts  Transcripts are official copies of a student’s academic records.  Transcripts are required for post secondary schooling and most jobs as proof of high school graduation.

10 Transcripts  Each school shall maintain student permanent records for not less than 60 years after the student has transferred, graduated or otherwise permanently withdrawn from the school. (ILCS 10/4)

11 CREDITS  Transcripts tell how many credits a student has earned.  District 215 graduates must complete 43 credits in various subject areas.

13 CREDITS  English8 credits –English 9 –English 10 –English 11 or AP Language & Composition –English 12 or AP Literature

14 CREDITS  Social Studies 6 credits –World History –U. S. History –Government* –Economics** *all students must pass the Constitution of the U.S. and the State of Illinois examinations. Both are included in the Government course. **this course fulfills the State of Illinois requirement for Consumer Economics

15 CREDITS  Mathematics –6 credits Algebra Geometry 3 rd year of math

16 CREDITS  Science 4 credits –Biology –2 nd year of science

17 CREDITS  Physical Education* 7 credits  Health 1 credit *Marching band counts as PE credit *Driver Education can be counted for one PE credit.

18 CREDITS – Class of 2012  Electives11 credits –These credits may include courses from Academic or Vocational areas.

19 What impedes credit acquisition?  Poor attendance  Tardies  Not completing class assignments  Not completing homework assignments  Not following directions  Poor test scores  Poor study habits  Lack of active participation in the educational process  Not asking questions for clarification  Multiple suspensions
