Questions?

John Kulikowski Andrea Lo Plan for Success

Plan for Success Program (P4S) Students admitted by exception

Staff John Kulikowski – Co-Director and Academic Counselor Andrea Lo – Co-Director and Academic Counselor

Primary Goals Increase retention from freshman year to sophomore year Increase student GPA Increase graduation rates

Current Admission Requirements 21+ on the ACT or top 1/3 of graduating class or Completed all 13 credits of the pre-college curriculum with a 2.0+ GPA (2.5+ out of state) Set out by Kansas Board of Regents; will change with 2015 summer term enrollment

Admission by exception Up to 10% of the incoming class KS Legislature passed a law requiring an “individual plan for success” for each student admitted by exception

Our program Mandatory for these students to enroll at KSU Based on the concept of intrusive advising Students must sign a learning contract; noncompliance can lead to dismissal from KSU 1 st semester they enroll in the Undergraduate Experience course & 2 companion courses 13 credit cap for first semester

Learning Contract Meet with Academic Counselor every other week Mandatory attendance at all classes Other requirements including enrollment, etc. 2 semester mandatory program, then becomes voluntary support for rest of their time at KSU

Fall 2014 P4S cohort Looking very similar to 2013 Currently, 88 students have been admitted by exception Average ACT 19 (range 14-20) Average core credits earned 12 (range 10.5- 13) Average core HS GPA 2.65 (range 1.83- 3.75)

Fall 2014 P4S cohort by colleges As of today, 41 have enrolled in O/E – Agriculture – 5 – Architecture Planning & Design – 1 – Arts & Sciences – 28 (Open Option – 21) – Business – 3 – Education – 1 – Engineering – 0 – Human Ecology – 2 – Technology (Salina) – 1

O/E: What to know Our program has special enrollment requirements for first semester, so we enroll them for first semester – They will not need an advising appointment at O/E – They will have a “Plan for Success” hold in iSIS All P4S students will be grouped with their chosen major, be assigned an academic advisor in their college, and participate in O/E activities like normal – They must meet major requirements (Architecture, Engineering)

O/E: What to know We have worked out programming and O/E logistical details with a representative from each college – Some colleges have elected to have one-on-one advisor visits with these students during O/E – Other colleges have asked us to tell our students to make appointments with their academic advisors 3-4 weeks into the semester
