9 President Abraham Lincoln Gave a speech called the Gettysburg Address on November 19,1863. The occasion was given to the soldiers in battle. He gave the speech as long as he could so the u.s.a could enjoy there freedom. This speech lasted only 2min and contained 272 words. This occasion was an important opportunity for the president to honor those who gave there life in battle This Battle was the most bloodiest battle the union lost over 7,000 men in a 3 day battle.

10 Emancipation Proclamation Lincoln issued the emancipation proclamation on September 22,1862 as the united states was facing there 3 rd year of war. On January 1 st 1862,declared that all people hold as slaves should be free.

11 Eli Whitney Eli Whitney was born in Westbro, Massachusetts on December 8,1765 and died January 8, 1852. He graduated at Yale college in 1792. A year later in October of 1793 Eli Whitney sent a picture of his new invention the cotton gin. The people said your invention may be delivered to your order immediately. Eli struggled to construct a full sized machine compared to his smaller version of his cotton gin. A year later he got it!

12 Underground railroad The underground railroad, a vast of network of people who help slaves escape to the north and Canada. According to one estimate the southwest lost about 100,000 slaves between 1810 and 1820. In 1786 George Washington complained about how one of his runaway slaves was helped by a society of Quakers formed for such purposes. The system grew and around 1831 it was named the underground railroad. The underground railroad was not underground

13 The Battle Of Gettysburg The Gettysburg battle was the first three days of July 1863. The Gettysburg battle was one of the most critical battle of the civil wars. On June 29 the union army set out from there camps with a new commander General George Gordon Meade most of the fighting on July first was west and north of Gettysburg. The fighting began July 1 that afternoon at 4:00, and quickly spread up and down the ridges.
